Colonization seems to have destroyed the frontier

but it had to be obvious from decades of player behavior in sandbox games exactly what would happen;
Decades of player behavior? How about thousands of years of human behavior? 😂 Agent Smith sums us up nicely:

I'd like to share a revelation during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus.

What I find sort of funny is these posts come along every so often how "x is destroying the game", which is what all these posts distill down to at the end of the day, and you know what - Elite is still kicking 11 years later.

I have quite literally lost count of every single thing that has ruined Elite. Or destroyed it. And yet, it's still alive. Still going.

Maybe the issue isn't that the game has been destroyed or ruined, but that it has simply changed and the real issue is that change is scary and different and at times difficult to grasp. That's okay, by the way? But entropy itself ensures that things cannot remain static forever. So whether one wants it or not, change must happen in a game world for it to not stagnate and die.

Frontier cannot have known, as none of us can truly know, exactly how a major change will go, down to a precise level. Oh, for sure 'experts' here will pretend they "of course new x would do y and obviously how could the developer not know" and act like this is somehow common knowledge, but really that's just the benefit of knowing, now, what wasn't fully known before. There are countless other realities where things could be slightly different and all of those are dependant on millions of choices made by thousands of commanders. Which stars. Where. When. Each one of them with a bunch of people who of course always knew that reality was going to be the authoritative one.

At any rate, I digress. I am sure the next subtle tweak of colonisation will of course destroy everything all over again, just as adding another ship does and just as everything else frontier does or doesn't do, does.

Change, man, its a riot.

only in elite dangerous would someone complain about populating systems in a game with literally billions of entirely unpopulated and pointless systems all around them. A limitless amount of nothing someone can move to if they feel like being alone. As if the idea of doing anything with any of those billions of systems will irreparably destroy the game experience for anyone.

There's plenty to complain about in elite, but the lack of empty systems isn't one of them.

perhaps the traditional response would be more helpful.

My secondary account is moving to the Riker's Hope region, beyond Sagittarius, where I expect civilization will take so long to arrive that I'll be comfortably dead 🤣

The STNR-Arcadia Darell is now 2000 Ly from Sagittarius, heading in that direction. All solo commanders are welcome.
