Hey guys,

Just jumping on very quickly.

Just to confirm that combat logging is considered against the rules and action does and has been taken against commanders who deliberately have done so. Our support department take great pride in making sure the game is a safe and fun environment.

They review all reports of cheating and take action as they deem fit.

How is this information going to be disseminated to CMDR's who dont use the forums as it isnt covered in the Elite Dangerous Terms Of Service or tutorial instructions?
Wouldnt like to see players getting banned without recieving due warning what they are doing is now classed as "Cheating"

Fix combat logging by making your ship remain in space for x minutes after a person logs out.
Said ship is invulnerable to everything (asteroids, NPCs, station fire ETC) the only thing that can hurt them is a player (or wing) that had already gone hostile before the logout.

Combat logging would be pointless in this event...

Then of course there is the completely different discussion on how the penalties and rewards of murder/ piracy should be tweaked.
Personally i want to see more open combat, but i also feel that the penalties for out right murder need to be harsh, something along the lines of being hounded by NPC headhunting wings, as well as police tracking your movements in the bubble, and reporting in real time the location of murderers, this would enable an actual player bounty hunter to both track down and try to claim a real player bounty without fear of combat logging. pvp game-play that isnt just anaconda vs sidewinder in starting system...

Rewarding pirates in a way that make it worth while outside of role-play is really hard however, as the economy in ED is already fairly unbalanced, it would need to be non exploitable, but still a good credit earning, maybe using pirate stations to sell booty.

Not perfect i know...

...

Impossible to do with FD engine. Need going to happen.

That said, I wonder if FD support prosecute others who make other people's existence a misery with the same fervour they apply to loggers. Recent damning video evidence is a prime example and no, I am not referring to logging.......

I will pass on your feedback to the support team and make sure they are happy that the information is clearly displayed.

Obviously it is also important to remember that under no circumstances is the aim to ban players. It's important to educate players and the support team have a fantastic amount of experience in making sure that all actions they take are fair based on the severity of the offense taken.

Thanks for that Zac. :)

impossible, i doubt, I certainly can see there being P2P technical issues though, but engines can change.

Rewrite the entire MP structure for a relatively minor irritant such as logging?

Not going to happen :)

Tell you what, all they need to do is implement a crime and consequence system, easy enough done within the current engine limitations. That will solve a helluva lot of issues but hey, we all know this - it's been repeated often enough already.

That seems not to be enough because combat logging is burning the galaxy now. It is a common method to avoid death and people are doing it like crazy. I am in a res site. Watching a player getting wrecked by npc's.... he is on 16% ... pof and he's gone only to be back in 10 mins with a fully repaired ship. I helped him to get the rebuy... but he logged on me :] Reported. Nothing. Next day we met again and he also logged.
You attack someone - LOG, you get attacked and win - LOG. God damn it FD.

Zac,

Have you considered using randomly selected P2P client (from some regional pool) as instance referee? It looks like an easy way to detect who lost connection in P2P architecture.

Fleeing from player interaction in a wrong way in a multiplayer oriented game is a minor irritant? Are you sure?

Yes, combat logging is wrong, is cheating and is a move, however, it costs the person on the other end between 30 seconds and a couple of minutes tops in terms of 'time lost', nothing more, making it a minor irritant.

haha , yes , true , its not going to happen, it is minor in relation to many other game breaking bugs. But hell, i would love to see them re write the net code and redesign the MP structure from the ground up... maybe they get it right this time :)

I would rather see them fix this by re writing the net code than randomly add in a system that punishes PVPers and murderers that dosnt use what could be a compelling game element (player bounty hunting). Murder isnt cheating, while combat logging is :)

I'm ok saying you can't combat log.

But then it settles the whole open vs solo debate.

ED is not a PVP MMO. I don't play it so I can mesure my genitals with other blood lusted players.

The kind of "killing player for lulz is the core of the game" we read here is the reason why I play solo, and solo mode has to stay. Because I disagree on this vision of the game, and I'm not alone.

Open is a feature.
Solo is the core game.

Happily for me, that's how it is right now...
But then again, FD will stir it the way they want, and then it's live or let live...
