COMBAT LOGGING solution -= EASY and WORKING =-

I'm wondering how, if at all, FD or anyone else can prove CL without proof? CL... PC blue screened, CL... Router cut out, CL... Net went down/must be a supplier reboot. "Oh they will watch everyone 24/7 and see a pattern", maybe so, but it is still the players word against theirs and unless they hack webcams, it could leave them very open to calls of abuse, heavy handedness or even legal action?
Saying "Johnny did it!" can't cut it, and videos can be edited to make anyone do anything. Proof and witnesses... Ed can run live youtube court sessions!

We all love Court tv-series! It could be done, and it could be good entertainment!

Since they are just going to put you on a special server without influence on the BGS, there is nothing you can legally do against it. You still have access to the game, it's their decision how that access works.

What I and countless other do in Elite: Dangerous fits the definition of 'compete'. Hell, plenty of people are competing with me, and vice versa, without even knowing it, via the BGS.

Even if you limit "PvP" to only include direct confrontations an "even playing ground" isn't required for competition. That said, if cheating were eliminated, the game would be as even a playing ground as any.

You are making it a competitive game, that doesn't mean it is one.

PS

By your definition The Witcher is also a competitive game because I can record my playthrough, post it on youtube and compete with others how fast I finished it. But there is still a difference between competitive games and The Wtichter.

I hear that FDEV are in secret discussions with the Thargoids around a contract to deal with CL's and griefers. A virtual tin of cat food
will be smeared over offenders ships for witch-space detection. In this way, the game could deal automatically, over time, with offences, so,
consequences of extreme logging and griefing would me more interdictions by them. My memories from the original game were not pleasant
when pulled over by Mr T, you couldnt jump out and there was no rebuy screen.

Joking aside, this is an area that does need attention but I dont know how granular the logs are to detect actual logging from client/server/wing issues. For
exmaple, I got interdicted at the weekend, I ended up in an empty instance and 10 seconds later got a matchmaking server error. I checked my router logs to see if I had a vdsl issue but my connection had been up for weeks. I also have seen a menu lock up when accessing the SLF menu that sometimes requires a game re-start. These are rare, but if FD cant tell the difference in the telemetary from logging and issues it makes it hard to punish.

Last recent example, I was at a CG res site online, a few large ships, like me, beefing into the wanted targets. Another CMDR then turned guns on my corvette and fighter so i engaged for a bit of fun. I have 2.5bn so the rebuy screen doesnt bother me. I had been in the RES for 30 minutes so I was starting to get the frame chunking we see sometimes with busy instances with a lot of high POLY ships. My screen froze but I didnt get the gamecrash upload . I waited for a few mins and had to kill off the client. Im pretty sure they thought combat logger.

Many mechanisms that govern the game are overtly competitive, and quite deliberately so. Even if they were unintentionally competitive, that wouldn't diminish the myriad of forms of competition they provide.

Competition occurs any time we work toward contrary goals and there isn't away to avoid this in Elite: Dangerous unless you go out of your way to pretend it's a single player game.

In that case you are talking about competitive PvEvP, which is not what I said.

Please read it again and the post I quoted for reference

I could read it a thousand times and I'd still disagree with your fundamental position and probably many of your definitions.

Elite: Dangerous is a competitive game for anyone with any vested interest in any aspect that can be influenced, in any way, by other players. The universe is the arena, and the weapons available range from trade, to exploration, to merits, to minor faction influence, even to combat. And it's all PvP, because it pits player against player, even in the more abstract forms.

Even if you use a much narrower definition of PvP, PvP doesn't become any less competitive, nor does any of the rest for that matter.

While indirect PvP is pretty much unavoidable through the BGS, Powerplay and opposed CGs (and every player both experiencing and affecting the evolving galaxy is Frontier's intended game experience after all), direct PvP is, by design, completely avoidable in this game.

Competitive elements of the game may be but there is no requirement to engage in direct competition.

It's easy to disagree with a definition if you completely misinterpret it. What you are disagreeing with isn't even part of my definition, so it's a very pointless discussion.

There is if I want anything resembling verisimilitude without forcing myself to play a space hermit.

If not directly engaging with another player, how can one be sure that one is being opposed in any way, in terms of whatever activity is being engaged in? Any "competition" may not actually be one.

Allowing for direct engagements is a critical part of my sense of verisimilitude and immersion. It's why I only play Open.

Of course, all the aforementioned indirect stuff also leaves evidence of it's occurrence. If those effects are contrary to my CMDR's interests, he's being opposed.

Indeed - that is your choice to do so.

It seems that evidence of indirect opposition may not always be discernible from the way that the BGS itself works.

Does the BGS play itself, in the absence of any player action?

Possibly not.

However, a player does not need to be opposing another player, if they even know that the other player is "involved" in a particular system, to affect them - they may just be, for example, gathering Combat Bonds for credits or trying to gain a permit to a locked system.

Inadvertent opposition is still opposition!

Well, since the game dont stop you from pulling the plug so i guess its working as a part of the game. *smiley face*

Clearly not part of the game, since your system and your plugs are not in game.

No, no it's not.

Deliberately causing the connection between the game client and the game servers or other players is considered by Frontier to be unacceptable behaviour and may incur consequences.

Leaving the game, at any time, using the menu exit (possibly delayed dependent on the player's current situation) is considered by Frontier to be acceptable.

Just out of curiosity, how much longer is this dead horse going to be beaten? The carcass is just dust now. How about considering yourself the winner and move on. I understand it's frustrating to the avid PVP'er, but my point is look how long this has been an almost daily topic (months) and with that has anything changed? Your missing out on everything else the game has to offer worrying about the activity of the human player base who apparently believe they bought the game so they can play it as they see fit. Now if Frontier back tracks and decides to change that aspect of the game this far in, then throw out your suggestions. Right now it seems their moving forward on bigger, better things. Or is it my age that doesn't allow me to get upset when someone combat logs?!? I still realize this is just a video game.

That's right.
