And you have your opinion.
Because you can effect me within those modes. You can opt out of direct pvp on my turf. And still fight for objectives.
Oh hey guess what. My player group just got triple elite with Fdev![]()
It baffles me, solo and private groups can effect the multiplayer experience.
You think combat logging would have ever been an issue if there wasnt multiplayer parts of this game?
You think crime and punishment would have been brought to the tables where we are now without open players of this game?
Its only a matter of time before its tackled. Guilds are coming soon.
This problem is going to be magnified by a million. And they have the chance to fix it before it gets out of control.
And I am sure they are quite aware of it.
You know I've come to realise that I can play ED by watching videos on youtube. Arguing about the game on the forum is more fun than actually playing it.
It is disappointing that things have played out as they have. And all because a certain CEO got rext in EvE and subsequently went on an anti 'griefer' crusade.
I've just had enough of all the stupidity, the grindfest, the frankenstein mode play, the way they shrug about cheating and exploiting, the never ending whining about being shot at, the blatant favoritism, the way the forum is part of the game, the way certain people suck up to the developers and get rewarded for it, and Frontiers word policing 'family friendly', everyone is a special snowflake mantra.
Its like watching a slow motion train wreck.. Game design from the old folks home.
What a nightmare this has turned into.
sorry but relying on the accountability of any code running on the client the user has physical access to is just delusional. this is security 101, never ever trust a client. any client.
frontier's watchdog.exe is just a helper app for post mortem diagnosis in a (hopefully) good faith policy, and probably trivial to hack, patch and redistribute.
the sensible and secure way to monitor and log user actions is serverside. oh wait ...
See, I don't understand this line of thought at all. We're not taking about security we're trying to substantially reduce the prevalence of a particular type of player behavior. It's not going to be a catastrophe if a few people manage to hack their client software in order to cheat, because the majority of CLoggers who are used to just task-killing their game, are not going to take the additional step of hacking their client. And if they ever do it and get caught, they can probably be banned from the game outright. Meanwhile, a client-side solution is going to put a stop to the overwhelming majority of combat logging.
You seem to think that any solution which doesn't 100% eliminate all possibility of CLogging, is a worthless solution which improves nothing. This might be a valid perspective for evaluating a system to protect nuclear launch codes, but in a video game there's such a thing as "good enough"

Much of the issue is you would be trusting your ship with another player, its not the logger that would need to hack their game, its the attacker.
An example, lets say when you task kill your ship is left in the instance because the attacker was given authority over your ship in that instance, now upon a disconnect the game could turn the ship into an AI ship and have it highwake. this is a perfect world solution to the problem.
Its also worth pointing out that 9/10 players will not hack their client to ensure they get the kill. but the risk remains just as the risk of a player using shields hacks remains. a tactic used in other online games that use servers is to DDOS a specific player to force their client to disconnect and thus leave that player defenseless.
Not sure I follow you.
I'm not suggesting any changes to the game's behavior when someone CLogs (e.g. "Turning them into an NPC, etc), and I don't think others were either, so I'm not sure why we need to worry about the attacker being given authority over your ship. The point I'm making is that CLogging should be something that can be tracked and punished by whatever method is deemed appropriate. (Or not punished at all: you could just have a message when you log back in that tells you "it looks like you task-killed your game to escape ship destruction. Not cool, man") My only real point is that an imperfect, less than comprehensive solution such as client-side self-reporting, should not be discounted on the sole basis that some people may be able to circumvent it.

Here's my advice for achieving inner peace
Here's my advice for achieving inner peace:
-Accept that game is the way it is and that (barring the announced tweaks in 3.0) is not going to suddenly transmogrify into a completely different game in the future.
-Diversity your gaming. Elite Dangerous isn't the only show in town. If you're burned out or frustrated, play something else for awhile.
-FD's forum, FD's rules. You accept their rules when you create your fourm account. Accept it, because ah...... you've accepted it.
-Come to terms with the fact that people can have different opinions than you. Doesn't mean they're suck-ups or stupid or 'favored.'
-Finally, keep some perspective. It's only a game, after all.
I agree with all that apart from the "favored" part, its clear some groups are more favored than others... there is even proof to back this up.

27 pages, 41 related threads spanning at least two years, and still no solution for this unsolvable issue.

I came up with a solution to this unsolvable issue.
But no one seems to care
I've come to the conclusion that no one wants Combat Logging solved, they just want to argue about it. Lol
