Seems like both paths mean the combat is left.

Sandro implied in the last livestream that the number of authentic "ganks" in open was low. If c-logging from ganks occurs, it follows its frequency must be lower - meaning exceedingly few. Why whine?

So if were talking about non-gank (piracy, faction fights, or duels) c-logging, then we have to be clear about in-game consequences.

Piracy - c-logging makes this type of intended game mechanic -non functional. How can this type of pvp be distinguished from ganking or duels? (I'd say throw up a pirate flag and limit the engagements to targets with cargo). The commander exiting the fight through whatever means other than waking out should have a portion of their cargo auto-dumped at the engagement site (proportional to the damage taken).

Faction fights - if were talking about CG blockades, it seems to me this is an RP thing. Does it have a significant BGS implication? I don't understand the mechanics enough to see how c-logging has a big impact on the BGS, or PP Merits. If clogging does not have a big impact on these game-relevant factors, why whine?

Consensual duels - I assume most of these are recorded. Isn't it more fun to shame a defeated c-logger online than to actually crush them to goo? This isn't Dark Souls where you actually get something for killing them.

If complaining about c-logging is really about the morality of rage-quitting / cheating after interaction, come on --- really? This is a video game.
 
Plenty of those people are gitted gud enough to simply laugh at any reasonable proposal to force them into the welcoming and friendly embrace of target-starved pew pews :D
 
Solving Combat logging would force the bad players to Git Gud or suffer rebuy..

Imagine the outrage if FDEV officially forced people to require skill to play ED.

Would it rival the outrage that drove Microsoft to redesign Windows in such a way that 1/4-wit with three thumbs can use it, and no one can administer it?
What happened to the good old days of If You Want to Use a Computer, You Actually Have to Know How to Use a Computer?

Imagine the outrage if FDEV officially forced people to require skill to play ED.

There is no skill barrier to high waking or the menu exit, if FDEV magic clogging away the moaning would simply shift focus.
 
I came up with a solution to this unsolvable issue.

it is definitely solvable if there is the will.

But no one seems to care :(

just frontier would need to care, and they don't.

I've come to the conclusion that no one wants Combat Logging solved, they just want to argue about it. Lol

so true. i would like it solved as to me it's just the tip of the iceberg. i don't care about the thing but about its implications. solving it would mean that elite had the necessary 'ice' below water to be a proper persistent mmo galaxy. which it isn't. oh well ... it's just a game, and it's just not that game. i got over it years ago.

but i do love to argue about it! well, sometimes at least. it's a perma topic and you can jump in and out whenever it pleases you :)

The Solution to this PVP-only Problem.

it's not. back when i still played hooked on ts people openly confessed (even bragged) about clogging in solo.

as i pointed out in my previous post, clogging is the symptom of the simulated world not having a consistent state. so it's just not believable. that is my problem with it, and it affects the game as a whole, pvp or solo.

The real skill comes into play when you track someone halfway across the bubble just to block him as he impotently tries to ram you not realizing you haven't actually left the landing pad, it's all in the thrill of the chase.

I don't understand the problem. Combat-log= guy/gal ran away (unconventionally). You won. As the result of being allowed to actually destroy another Commander's ship is negligible in terms of rank progression/cash generation, shouldn't the "hah!, he ran away (in some fashion)" be enough?
 
What do you guys consider combat logging? Alt tabbing and ending the task? Waiting the 15 seconds then exit the game? Or both?

Both are combat logging but (and here's the important bit) only if you are in combat. If you are attacked but don't shoot back then neither is combat logging because you're not in combat. Think about it.

Summarize the vid for the rest of us - I'm dying to know as I agree with him. I mean, why is a fight so important that you ABSOLUTELY have to blow up the other ship to get the win?
