Hi Xxxx

We are contacting you in regard to a number of recent disconnections by your Elite Dangerous client during combat involving other players.

In an effort to ensure that we provide the best possible gaming experience for Elite Dangerous, we would like to offer some advice and information to help you prevent these disconnections from occurring in future.

If you find that your connection is unstable you may wish to read our support article on testing your connection and gathering information we can use to investigate network issues. You can find this here: https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/faq.php?id=78

Should you instead believe that these connections are related to a bug occurring during combat, we invite you to post a Bug Report that we can use to try and isolate and resolve this problem: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/124-Elite-Dangerous-Bug-Reporting

Finally, we would like to clarify that terminating the Elite Dangerous client or connection while in combat with other players is considered an exploit of the game mechanics, and must warn you that we may take punitive action as a result if disconnections in this circumstances are found to be intentional. For further reference, please review the information within our Code of Conduct which you will find —

My answer to this ...

Dear Customer Support,

My Connection is ok.
I just logged out via the menu in the way your game offer to me with a 15 Second danger delay timer. Please check your logs carefully and ripley next time before you contact me in this way. I decided to change the Session to Single Player Mode due to continous Interruptions by another Player i dont want to interact with. If you dont like this, than change your log out mechanic in the way it will satisfy you.
Be sure that Nobody and i really mean Nobody will tell me, when i have to leave a Game, in this case via the main menu Option ‚back to Main Menu‘.

With best Regards

So, FD are actually looking at combat logging? This is great news!

Of course, since FD give the loophole of the 15 second delayed combat log, it seems like they'd be able to tell the difference.

I suspect that they can and that you might be referring to different instances of combat logging than they are. They have said over and over that they wait a certain amount of time before taking action on cheaters. This is probably in response to a series of disconnects from some time back. In any case, I'd trust FD's version before someone who readily admits to using a loophole to combat log. Just saying.

Indeed. I’d just about lost the will to report anymore. Guess it’s time to get back at it!

Ohwow..

Honestly cannot tell if this is a pure troll post.

You are the type of player Ed needs!

Ideally we need the entire game changed to directly support yours and only your play style.

Perhaps add in an auto quit function on interdiction?. You being forced to manually wait 15 seconds is pretty much griefing.

I feel they should expand on your Docking Computer module, to include auto pilot in super cruise.

Yeh, cos the alternative (people like you going around killing new players or traders at CGs with impunity) is MUUUUCH better. Mm-hm, yeh it is. lol.

When will you realise that both sides have a point? You are doing the exact same thing you are accusing the other guy of, insisting he plays by your rules, not FDs. How can you not see that?

Whats wrong with killing traders at a CG?

Whats wrong with killing traders at a CG?

Same thing that's wrong with clubbing seals?

And if you think there's nothing wrong with killing traders that don't have a chance in CGs, then why are new players off limits? Cos you have morals? Why your morals extend to one type of defenseless player but not another?

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, I'd be the first to say that under current conditions, you hit open, you 'open' yourself up to anything, however, why do you want to destroy someone that doesn't want to fight and has no chance? I just don't get that part of it and never will, but obviously at the moment, those people should play in solo.

What I'm trying to say is that by your own post of referring to only one of two categories of seal clubbing as 'ok', who's to say waht is 'ok', except every player on his own? And if every player's morality counts, how can one say that the seals don't have a point as well? This is obviously a failure of a ruleset or a design.

I think it's cute that Haramir thinks FDev can't tell the difference between logging out via the menu and yanking his network cable/hitting alt-F4.

Blocking? Na, I got more pride than to use a cheap mechanic like that.

But you are right, lets just accept that cheating is an accepted part of ED and be happy with that.

This question will hardly matter when they have stiffened crime and punishement enough - combat logging will go right down because the risk of getting killed will go right down.

It's not about being happy with it, it's about accepting that it's going to happen whether you like it or not. There's no current way of preventing it.

If someone clogs on you then report them if you want, block them if you want, move on.

Having a murderhobo combat log at the first sign of trouble isn't a win, it's a loss for the bounty hunter, and a get out of jail free card (avoid rebuy) for the murderhobo, and more trouble for their victims.

Having a trader combat log at the first sign of trouble isn't a win for a pirate trying to get the cargo, it's win for the trader(avoid cargo loss and/or rebuy), and the pirate goes home empty handed.

Combat Logging is a problem. It's effectively a god mode cheat.

So saying "accept the win" is more accurately saying "accept that they cheated".

If it was possible to 100% accurately identify a combat logger from a connection error or CTD, I'd say treat them as cheaters that they are, and force them to eat a rebuy.
But it's not possible, hence my solution, which is basically stick them back where they was before, and let fate decide. Lol
It's the next best thing.

Cheating is an accepted thing in ED, cash exploits, 5-1, station griefing it's all here to stay even clogging. Don't sweat it just opt out, its only a game after all you might enjoy it more if you didn't play with people who obviously wind you up.

You need to fix the reason why people combat log if you want to reduce it:
1) The penalty for being destroyed in ED is massive compared to other MMOs (in WoW the cost of dying in PVP is negligible).
2) Introduce an Open-PVE mode - some people like interacting with other players without being forced into PVP. This will greatly reduce the problem of ganking, and therefore combat logging.
