Making all ships identify the same would simply leave victims unaware of predators CMDRs lurking about.

It's easy to tell a CMDR from NPC, even without a hollow square or CMDR tag.

Predator CMDRs would just hide at stars, scanning and watching all ships, and attacking those that are piloted by a CMDR.
Where as the CMDR jumping in, everyone would look like an NPC, and they'd be none the wiser until the interdiction started.

The hollow square is an immediate IFF signal. I know to be on guard if there's a CMDR in the system. And they can't hide from me either. Of course, they also know I'm here. But they have no element of surprise.

This thread is still going strong huh...

As one pro-PVP guy told me years ago - "It's about fear - if I don't make other players suffer and fear me, when what is the point of me investing time in a game?"

Make of that what you will.
A nagging sense of inadequacy manifested as a desire to make other people suffer?

If Solo / PG were removed - as many have been calling for - how would a CMDR in such a circumstance continue enjoying the game? :D
Personally, I wouldn't. I would stop playing as this would no longer be the game for me.

How would it work though? Only instance you with other CMDRs who have the flag set? A sort of dynamic PG?

It's rather easy. Make friendly fire do zero damage or effect unless both players are flagged. It works the same as any MMO pvp flags, pvp players can't attack or damage another non-flagged player.

If this were the case in ED, I would always be in Open because I like interacting with other CMDRs on a social level while in busy systems. After being griefed a dozen times, I never go into open anymore, and the game is a rather lonely place.

Well, the more rabid ganker types will start screaming that anything other than dying is CLogging. Just asking the question is going to get you accused of being a CLogger and likely added to their little reddit KoS list.

Be sure your forum shields are fully A rated and engineered, you're going to need them.

What makes you think that do any good? :)

Let me assure you it's not! No matter how good your "shields" are, you are only human and thus making mistakes and when that happens they are exploiting it ruthlessly to take you down, and make you unfeasible.
What's necessary to know, when the other targeted or framed like this. And deal with this matters in the fashion what's necessary in the given situation.
Fake charges, framing, and persecution / harassment until you make a mistake, and thus give em reason? All of these is crime, and when you fallen in a trap what laid to you, not guilty. (if you can prove it)

However? The one do such thing are.

This canker sore again?

This is reason number 19 on my list of Why PVP in Elite is a WOMBAT.

There is no solution, there will never be a solution, and CTD's can be "manufactured" with a single line of code entered into the correct place.
Instant Driver Fault, Stack Overflow, or fault in NTDLL.dll and program termination that isn't your fault. At least not to anyone trying to look into it.

The sooner people learn to accept that some folks are going to do this no matter how many threads they post here and get back to playing the game, the better it will be for everybody.

Yes. People will cheat.
Yes. People will lie.
Yes. People will steal.
Yes. We will elect some of these exact same lying, cheating, stealing scumbags to public office, idolize them as celebrities, and make excuses for their miscreant behavior.

In short, we enable it.

Go name-and-shame them on reddit for what they do, since you can't do it here. Send them angry tweets and cover their facebook walls with graffiti until they sit there and let you kill them.

The only possible solution is to replace the sudden disappearance of their ships with a ship explosion animation. Then you'll never know what they did and won't care, and the rest of us, who don't care about PVP-only problems won't have to hear about it any more.

People's are faulty, and most of these sins well within forgiveness, unless you searching an excuse to screw them over.

By attacking the other person's network connection.
A quick packet capture and you can pull their IP easily.
A little bit of network knowledge and you can generate enough latency to make their connection drop.
Or if you have a high-end router, you can block their headers from your end and the instance splits and you both disappear from the other's person's perspective.

And this is one of a few hundred reasons why nothing will ever stop this.

If there is no case and they want to mess with someone, or he is just too good, and cannot be caught? Make one!

Or just keep hounding it, until he have enough, and simply quits from the game and than? Keep shouting CLOG. It happens even if he is not a quitter, because to put it simple? Everyone patience have it's limits, so he quits, or just go full berseker, so they can report him, for inappropriate behaviour...

I think the best way to deal with a Combat Logger is to move on ... Is it really anything more than a mild annoyance?
:D

IT's not about annoyance but to have a validish reason to grief and troll the other. After all? you are the bad guy, so they have the right to screw with you.

TBH, I'd rather have separate modes than any kind of "PvP flag".

The idea of being in a CG, for example, with a bunch of people who I can see and interact with but who are immune to attack seems utterly pants-on-head bonkers to me.

What happens if a PvP-immune ship collides with a regular ship?
Only the normal ship takes damage?
Gee, I don't see any possible way that could be abused. [where is it]

I'd love an Open PvE mode. I don't care about people who play in that hypothetical mode. Actually right now I'm playing in Solo because my Internet is being crap.

Point is, I don't care if someone never appears on my screen. If that's the case I don't give a damn what they do. But if they are on my screen, I'd like to be able to interact. Yes, this means combat. Sometimes I might even start it.

That won't work either :D

People can manipulate things for certain players to encourage them to report inappropriate behavior, and then when FD investigates, the reporter is the one that will get sanctioned :D

Are you sure?

Edit;
The judge and the cop?

They are human too!
Their judgement not absolute, and unmistakable.
