Communicating with other commanders while in the rift

So I ran into another CMDR yesterday (actually a somewhat rare occurrence for me), and he hailed me over chat. It was then that I realized I don't have an easy way to chat while in the rift.
So I wanted to setup a Voice Attack command that would send out a canned response along the lines of: "Hi, I'm playing on a rift, so can't type, but will respond to voice comms" (granted most people don't seem to do the voice comms, but at least I can be friendly and offer)
But I can't figure out how to do this in VA. I see where I can set a text value for a phrase, but can't figure out how to actually output that TXT block. Anyone know how to do this?
Also wondering what other options/ideas people have for communicating with other CMDR's while in the rift? (other than simply ignoring them

)

My profile has a huge amount of commands setup for talking via voice comms, you can even type words using the phonetic alphabet or just saying 'Type a' etc etc

Let me know if you want it, I'll package it up.

Thanks. I already have the alphabet in my profile, and i use it for 'typing' system names in the galaxy map. But it is slooow.... I was hoping for a way to send a canned block of text with one command. Does your profile have that?

You can import bits of peoples profiles into your own profile. My entire VA profile has around 3500 commands, I'll run through it a bit later and separate the comms commands to be uploaded.

Ah, ok, I see what you did there. I initially started doing that, and it felt like a kludge, I thought there must be an easier way to send a block of text.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but have you tried nircmd? Would allow you to create a text file(s) containing stock responses, then use nitcmd to drop the text into chat for you.

I use it for the Galaxy Map, kinda lazy but love the immersion

I use Dragon Natually Speaking.
I got a copy of DNS Home Edition v12 on ebay for $16 (US), and it works very well for 'Voice to Text' in the chat window.
I have a hot key which enables DNS to begin dictation, and then I use VA to 'Send Message' (press Enter).

That's it..... real easy.

I have a Northern American English accent (I live in New Hampshire, USA) and DNS understands me 95% of the time after training it 4 times.

PS: I tried the canned VA commands and I could never remember exactly what I had programmed as the command phrase.... now I can just speak and DNS types.

PPS: 777Driver stole (with permission) some of my VA code a while ago!

I guess its working out for him.......
