This is not that. This is you thinking women are not proper people, and the default voice needs to be male. It's really diaturbing, and I really wish you would stop this.

Old boy in the majority of the world you will find that ships are generally referred to as female.
At the very least in the majority of European nations, the entirety of the anglosphere and the majority of nations that were once part of the British Empire.
So already we're looking at nearly if not half the global population. Certainly the entirety of the relevant population.

Seriously, masculine voices are easily buried under other sounds, while feminine voices can be heard more easily.
Also, your claim is false: there are male voices in ED as well.

I'll also add to the posts that have mentioned male station announcers. Think I heard the dutch guy in Freeport. As for the ship voice, there is solid empirical evidence (somewhere, I'm too lazy to go find it) that both male and female pilots react better to female voices in pressure situations.
Think a bloke's voice would weird me out a bit. Might try recording a sample set to give it a try.

I think obnoxious is the wrong word entirely - Brian was just making a joke, even though the gynocentrism did show. Makes you wonder how female backers would react to another female saying "I prefer to be ordered around by a man", but of course that's entirely different... er.
I confess to feeling "creeped out" by some of the numerous posts where backers talk about "being in the doghouse" with "the other half", sleeping on the sofa, "making it up" to their partner for buying a computer game and/or rig etc. etc. etc.
However female voices on ships is very traditional - think Star Trek and lots of other sci-fi. So personally this doesn't bother me at all. It's more just paying homage to a trope. I've not seen the research that people refer to - it might be valid, but it might just be feminist propaganda - god knows there is plenty of that about.
+1 rep for you however since I think you have been dealt with pretty harshly on this thread and I want to restore a bit of balance. It's fairly obvious to me you probably aren't trolling and it is frankly out of order for others to state that you are. God forbid that other people have an actual point of view and all that.
Ships: The Royal Navy, US Navy and also most European Navies tend to call ships 'She'. Although the French navy are a little different - in French, 'navire', is a masculine noun, although they have many female ships as well as male.
Planes also tend to be called 'she', certainly in the RAF and USAF. Space-going craft and the ISS continue this tradition. So this would explain why the predominant gender of voices are female.
If they were all to switch to male, would that not then offend someone else?
Seriously though, there are so many more important things to get upset about in life. I would suggest that you deal with it!
