Concept Map

I finally finished my concept map. It took longer than I would have liked but it has everything I wanted laid out where I want it, in general. The actual building of the zoo might change things up because things don't always look as good in fact as they do on paper. I gave everything of any importance a number in the legend. I have 71 items in my legend. Because I gave each habitat a number and each shelter/viewing area a number, about 64ish of the legend is habitats and shelters. So, 32ish animals. The other 7ish are decor items like the train station, boat station and jeep station among other things. Now, I have to wait for the game, which might be harder than organizing my map.

I did the same thing on paper. Mine is not drawn to scale though so a lot may change after I actually start building the zoo. For the most part I have everything laid out as my personal dream zoo which includes aspects of several real life zoos.

Well it sounds awesome! I can’t wait to see it come to life once you can start building it. :) What theme/themes are you thinking about building with?

It will of course depend on exactly what we have to work with on the full release version, but I am hoping be able to have different themes in the same zoo. An African safari is of course a must but I also have drawn out a tropical forest and North American or Himalayan mountain area. I have all the different areas linked together by train and jeep tours with multiple stations for guests to get off or back on to move to the next area.

I've decided to show you my zoo concept map. I researched zoo concept maps online and when I found one that I thought might fit, I copied it to my zoo file. Then I compared each, trying to determine which best suited my needs and wants. The one I used, I added and subtracted here and there to make it what I want. I wanted to give credit to the original but, when I went back online, I couldn't find it again. Whoever did the original did an excellent job, so thank you. I hope it shows up in here and is somewhat legible.

Wow it’s beautiful and looks quite functional. I love the river running through the middle of the zoo. Awesome work. :)

Thanks. That's one of the features I like about this plan. You can see animals from the walkways, train ride, jeep ride and/or the boat ride. It has everything I want.

How'd you make this map? Is there some type of zoo map generator, that lets you design the maps like this, or is it something you painted on your own?

Thank everyone. As I stated above, I found a concept map that I liked and, using PAINT, I changed the bits I didn't like and added the parts that were missing that I need. It's not hard but it's not easy either, just time consuming. For example, all the dark green areas in the original are meant to be trees/forests. In mine, some are still tree ares but others are grass. The green areas on the left are for African animals like elephants, zebras, giraffes and ungulates. If the green area has a number, it's for an animal. You should give it a try your self. Just google zoo concept art and troll the images. You might find one that meets your needs. Then edit it in PAINT to be what you need it to be. Good luck.

Thanks. I know that it might seem daunting to try to do your own, but if it doesn't work out, you at least gave it a shot and if it works, you have a map. good luck.

Looks awesome! My only feedback - your space looks too small for polar bears, I'd think they needed as much or more than the other bears.

I agree. I imagine during building, I will tweak a lot of habitats. I'd like all three bear habitats to be closer to being the same size.

Great concept map...but I want to make one recommendation for the train. You will need a second station. At least in the beta...when I tested the train...guests would not board it unless "they had somewehere to go". They were making comments like "that train doesn't go anywhere interesting' (or something like that). So you will need a second station towards the back of the zoo to give them a destination, else they may not ride.

Thank you @wowman I want to add a second station that allows guests to leave the train to visit the far side of the zoo. I'll probably place it between 29 and 31 where that green area is. It will become a food court that connects the train station to the nearby path. Do the other two rides (jeep and boat) also require a second station or are they more adventure rides for sight seeing?

I noticed that you've got the underwater viewing (54) right next to a bridge over the same body of water. That's going to be a pretty steep elevation change.
