FAQs
Do you have any information on Odyssey on consoles?
There currently isn't any new information to share in terms of Odyssey on consoles. We hear you, as soon as we do have something worth sharing with you, we will. At the moment, work is focused on PC optimisation.
That is simple to understand and the right thing to do. I'm actually not sure which is worse...the idea that they are working on it and not telling us or the idea that there at a point where there's "nothing worth sharing". That statement alone should tell the console community that we are not yet being considered for EDO. There's "nothing worth sharing" because they've not looked at it in the five months (or more) since it was delayed. All we can do at the moment is play EDH if we still enjoy it or move on to something else. It's pretty simple to understand why the PC fixes are the focus.
Imagine if CP77 launched in the same state on PC as on last-gen consoles.
You need to get the software up to an acceptable launch quality before you start scaling it to other hardware. Otherwise you're doing parallel development where you need to work in all the fixes to both tracks separately.
CP77 was, by all accounts dire at launch, but I am not sure Sony pulled it because it was so bad. It's pretty simple to understand why the PC fixes are the focus.

Maybe i don't English understand very well, but "focused on PC optimisation" to me means making it work better. Given they're actions, the statement should really be:It's pretty simple to understand why the PC fixes are the focus.
Found it!"We'd rather give you bad news than no news at all" became a forum tag-line earlier this year in response to the post-Odyssey fall-out.
It seems that only counts if you're playing Odyssey already, though.
Oh I am judging … very much judging …Maybe i don't English understand very well, but "focused on PC optimisation" to me means making it work better. Given they're actions, the statement should really be:

Another FDev tag-line from earlier was something like "words don't mean much ... judge us by our actions"![]()
Found it!
Edit: Not going to go back and forth again over whether they've given us an answer...just passing along where he said it's better to give bad news than no answer.

There is no progress on console Odyssey because Frontier is not working on it. It's not being developed, either for Xbox or PlayStation. They claim it's because they're still improving the PC version, but the reality is that the PC version will probably never run so well that they can port it to last gen consoles, yet they have no plans to natively support the new ones. Their official communication says they will tell us when there's any information on the console versions. It's only there to keep all parties away from it.I've been told, "Fdev have talked about consoles on their streams, you should watch them!"
I'm not sitting through an hours long livestream on twitch to hear a brief one sentence snippet about consoles.

I've been talking about it non-stop for months, with no warnings. Also, if you talk about this topic you're now apparently warned/banned here for "flaming"
Yes, it will almost certainly exclusively be for XBox Series consoles and PS5.
I still reckon Q3 2022 for a console launch of Odyssey in some form of other, is the earliest best case scenario. They've proven over the last 12 months that they are not going to make a special effort to keep the console player-base engaged while we wait for an Odyssey that never starts.
We're invited to come along for the ride and watch streams of Odyssey content, without being able to engage with it.
Sat in the passenger seat waiting for our turn to drive...
It's a bit like watching Clarkson drive some obscure Alfa Romeo curioso-unicorn-mobile on Top Gear - except it's Zac and Bruce, with the occasional quip from Sally and Arthur back in the studio. Every Tuesday and Thursday.
I wouldn't mind, but at this rate by the time it comes to consoles, it'll be a stale affair that's lost its appeal and features Joey from Friends.
Since the Odyssey "hot" release that Frontier had to put all hands on deck to bring the PC version up to the expected levels and understandably the console version inevitably got the end short of the stick, as soon as PC things stabilize the Console version will move much faster.I'm tired of saying it but the concept is extremely simple: Odyssey will be released on consoles when the PC version is optimized. When and above all what level of optimization on PC must be achieved for the release on console? Even just a declaration of circumstance is enough as for example (the console version is going well but it will still take a few months) (we are working the console version but we prefer to pet our cat) (The console version of Odyssey exists and is in the works but our religion does not allow you to work for more than two hours a day for xbox and ps5) Please PLEASE give us real news thanks
