"Console development continues behind the scenes with an Autumn release still on schedule"

Well i didnt buy Jurassic World 2 and many others didnt.

I wonder why, FD reputation is so low right now.
Their reputation and their stocks.

They don't realize that by abandoning consoles they undermined player (and investor) trust in their company. They think they can survive on PC alone but it won't be possible in the long run. Without player trust their next games will flop as well.

I've been told, "Fdev have talked about consoles on their streams, you should watch them!"

I'm not sitting through an hours long livestream on twitch to hear a brief one sentence snippet about consoles.

How bout Fdev uses their website and forums to share progress on consoles?

Assuming there even is any.

FAQs

Do you have any information on Odyssey on consoles?

There currently isn't any new information to share in terms of Odyssey on consoles. We hear you, as soon as we do have something worth sharing with you, we will. At the moment, work is focused on PC optimisation.

It's pretty simple to understand why the PC fixes are the focus.
Imagine if CP77 launched in the same state on PC as on last-gen consoles.
You need to get the software up to an acceptable launch quality before you start scaling it to other hardware. Otherwise you're doing parallel development where you need to work in all the fixes to both tracks separately.

That is simple to understand and the right thing to do. I'm actually not sure which is worse...the idea that they are working on it and not telling us or the idea that there at a point where there's "nothing worth sharing". That statement alone should tell the console community that we are not yet being considered for EDO. There's "nothing worth sharing" because they've not looked at it in the five months (or more) since it was delayed. All we can do at the moment is play EDH if we still enjoy it or move on to something else.

CP77 was, by all accounts dire at launch, but I am not sure Sony pulled it because it was so bad.
Microsoft, at the same time did not pull CP77.
I think that CP77 was pulled from the Sony store to allow customers to get a refund.
CD Project Red pretty much absolved themselves of refunding by telling customers to go back to Sony / Microsoft if they weren't happy.

(I think Train Sim World 2 tried a similar tactic - you paid your money to Microsoft / Sony when you bought the game, go to them for a refund).

More detail on Cyberpunk2077 being pulled from Sony but not Microsoft can be found here...

I can quite believe that both Sony and Microsoft will have tightened their quality criteria since CP77 but that is speculation

Microsoft didn't pull it from sale because Microsoft allow no questions asked refunds on their store. Sony don't, and so pulled it from sale rather than have to start offering refunds to anyone who bought it.
But that's neither here nor there.
On PC, CP77 has always run like an absolute dream on higher end hardware. The kind of hardware Odyssey still struggles on.

My comparison was that had Cp77 had single digit fps on PC, like it did on 8th gen consoles, then we'd not be looking at a console version of it coming at all until they fixed PC perfomance (and would probably be all the better for it, since there'd have been no disastrous console launch of an absolute turkey and the 8th gen versions would probably have been canned outright), because they'd need to get the core game working before starting on a port of it. Much as how they ended up delaying work on the 9th gen console versions until they had rolled out several major patches to the PC version.

Exactly what Frontier did with Odyssey.
If they started work on a console version at any time in the last year, we'd get a console version of Odyssey that plays like the last-gen versions of CP77, and it would absolutely be the final nail in ED's coffin. Which is why it hasn't happened, and why they are sensibly not building up any hype for something which right now would be another failure.

Maybe i don't English understand very well, but "focused on PC optimisation" to me means making it work better. Given they're actions, the statement should really be:

Do you have any information on Odyssey on consoles?

Another FDev tag-line from earlier was something like "words don't mean much ... judge us by our actions"

"We'd rather give you bad news than no news at all" became a forum tag-line earlier this year in response to the post-Odyssey fall-out.

It seems that only counts if you're playing Odyssey already, though.
Found it!

Edit: Not going to go back and forth again over whether they've given us an answer...just passing along where he said it's better to give bad news than no answer.

Oh I am judging … very much judging …

Yeah it was on the Lave Radio interview in the immediate aftermath of Odyssey launch. They're a good bunch on there, but don't have any console CMDRs amongst thier ranks so sometimes misunderstand console specific issues in discussion.

There is no progress on console Odyssey because Frontier is not working on it. It's not being developed, either for Xbox or PlayStation. They claim it's because they're still improving the PC version, but the reality is that the PC version will probably never run so well that they can port it to last gen consoles, yet they have no plans to natively support the new ones. Their official communication says they will tell us when there's any information on the console versions. It's only there to keep all parties away from it.

Also, if you talk about this topic you're now apparently warned/banned here for "flaming". However, it's their lack of clarity about the state of this topic what put us all in this situation.

I've been talking about it non-stop for months, with no warnings.
I suspect it's a matter of tone. I'm not aggressively pushing for anything from Frontier on the matter. I accept they'll begin working on console versions when there's a functioning PC build. And until then, there's nothing to talk about, so they're not talking.

Yes, it will almost certainly exclusively be for XBox Series consoles and PS5. And they'll likely set a date some time up to a year or so after that launches for switching off the last gen version permanently, to give folks who want to time to upgrade their hardware. But again, that's not something you announce until you KNOW when that will be. And until the PC version is fixed, there's no way to say with confidence, this is the nature of software development.

Which is contrary to what they were telling us this time last year. So the details and dates of the console launch have changed, and do change. If as it looks likely, Odyssey isn't expected until Q3 2022 at the earliest that's plenty of time for things to change yet again.

I think therefore at this stage most us would like a bit of honesty, and a bit of clarity about what the intentions are. As paying customers and long time players who've waited a year now since the original launch date and are none the wiser, I also think we're owed that as 2021 draws to a close.

I still reckon Q3 2022 for a console launch of Odyssey in some form of other, is the earliest best case scenario. They've proven over the last 12 months that they are not going to make a special effort to keep the console player-base engaged while we wait for an Odyssey that never starts.

We're invited to come along for the ride and watch streams of Odyssey content, without being able to engage with it.

Sat in the passenger seat waiting for our turn to drive...

It's a bit like watching Clarkson drive some obscure Alfa Romeo curioso-unicorn-mobile on Top Gear - except it's Zac and Bruce, with the occasional quip from Sally and Arthur back in the studio. Every Tuesday and Thursday.

I wouldn't mind, but at this rate by the time it comes to consoles, it'll be a stale affair that's lost its appeal and features Joey from Friends.

Not taking credit, but today's stream had more than a hint of influence from Top Gear, eh?

I'm tired of saying it but the concept is extremely simple: Odyssey will be released on consoles when the PC version is optimized. When and above all what level of optimization on PC must be achieved for the release on console? Even just a declaration of circumstance is enough as for example (the console version is going well but it will still take a few months) (we are working the console version but we prefer to pet our cat) (The console version of Odyssey exists and is in the works but our religion does not allow you to work for more than two hours a day for xbox and ps5) Please PLEASE give us real news thanks

Since the Odyssey "hot" release that Frontier had to put all hands on deck to bring the PC version up to the expected levels and understandably the console version inevitably got the end short of the stick, as soon as PC things stabilize the Console version will move much faster.
