How do you know?
The game is running smoother, lighting is getting optimized, some cpu heavy tasks were optimized (sort off - i'm talking about AI Navmesh)
But most of the optimization is behind the scenes - you cant really see if they optimize some cpu workloads - not unless you run a real potato pc, way under minimum specs and you trigger that specific workload.
Edit:
They dont really need to share anything.
There you go.
They split the servers because the game was not ready
Odyssey requires higher minimum hardware requirements and with those requirements the game would not have been playable on Horizons minimum PC specs OR on PS4/XB1 which have similar specs with.
So i guess the target is clear. When the game will be playable and have stable FPS on the potato PC that is the Horizons minimum hardware requirements PC... then it will be ready to be ported on PS4/XB1
Just to clarify something to make sure we are actually talking about the same thing. Them doing optimization work for PC is not the same as optimization work for console.
To further clarify…they are not basing a lower spec PC on how a game runs for a console.
To be clear, all I’m saying and pointing out is we know they are NOT working on console because that is what they literally said.
They told us the reason console development is not going on is because they feel like PC needs to be optimized. I own both and I completely agree it really needs some work on PC.
The problem however:
They actually do need to share what consoles Odyssey work is going to be on. This goes into “WHY” did you actually stop console development. From an earlier comment from you and one I see from many others is the belief that there are different teams working on different things. Yes, everyone doesn’t do the same work and everyone is not interchangeable.
BUT
When you communicate that the “console team development” was stopped to focus on PC optimization, you are literally suggesting that the staff that would have been or was assigned to console development is now working to optimize PC. As a result no work is being done on console at all.
Now if it was just that…you would hear nothing from me, but they are not just working on optimizing PC. They are also working on content updates. Can they continue to keep adding new content updates for odyssey and horizons, sure. Should they…I dont know but are the would be console devs now doing content updates or are those devs doing PC optimization and the PC devs doing content updates. And at what point if there is one at all, do they stop and go back to finish the console version of Odyssey.
My criticism is just that, they are soley focused on PC right now…based on what they said…they will start working on console after they get PC optimized…or at least now that Is what we hope. The concern is what consoles specifically because if its taken you months to optimize PC while you keep rolling out content and feature updates, ow much more time is it going to take to finish console development before you get to optimize it?
What’s clear is there’s an opportunity to focus all available resources on actually optimizing PC so they can get to console development. At least that was how it was presented initially but they have changed direction without giving any updates.
Make sense what I’m complaining about?
