Probably not the right place to ask but thought I'd take a shot.

I am completely computer illiterate and all the technical jargon goes right over my head but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a gaming PC good enough to run Odyssey at a playable and acceptable level.

I'm also not a rich man with a family and with Xmas around the corner and the cost of living crisis the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance
This might get you there... https://www.amazon.com/HP-Computer-...s=i7+with+graphics+card&qid=1662135078&sr=8-3

Attached are Frontiers minimum and recommended specs. Ideally if you know someone who builds PCs you can get a decent one without having to pay over the top. Graphics cards have been insanely expensive the past couple of years but have been coming down recently.

Greetings Commanders!

This is it! We opened the door to September!
As mentioned in this week's Discovery Scanner, this month is absolutely a one for some quite large scale events, one specifically being the console profile copy process, with the release of the console profile copy portal.

We have the latest news on our targeted release plan for console profile copy portal in place for you today, which you can absorb over in the following post: www.elitedangerous.com/news/console-profile-copy-process-release-plan.

For those of you with questions around the other big bit of Galaxy-keeping, '4.0', outside of console copying - We're working on the release plan for this too it and will be back with specifics in dedicated communications as soon as possible.
Still on track though!

Keep looking up (or...down. Who knows when you're up in space, I know)!

o7 Commanders.
This is good news, my Cmdr and Fleet Carrier will be out in the black again, soon.

A quick note to any players transferring over to PC, be sure to check out the excellent array of third-party tools that both help you play the game in faster, better and more varied ways, but also contribute to the pool of data that enables those tools.

You can get started over at https://edcd.github.io/ (the icons are links to each tool). There's also https://edcodex.info/ , although you might find some of the tools haven't had their information maintained very well there. Obviously there's also the sub-forum for such things here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forums/elite-api-and-tools/ .
Cut and pasted in my journal for reference, cheers Cmdr o7

The 1050ti would likely be the sticking point.
I have heard that 3060 is about what you're looking for at min, though I'm not an expert.

Stoked for this - really looking forward to resuming Elite on PC instead of PlayStation.

QQ … I ideally want to do a “wealth transfer” from my existing PC CMDR to my PlayStation CMDR before the clearing my PC save and going through the console port process … but I can only find options for “wealth transfer” from console to PC. Is PC to console “wealth transfer“ no longer a possibility?

The PC specs look fine but I didn't see a graphics card which you will need. BTW I got a refurbished Dell about 3 years ago for music production on the super cheap. Still running toda and Ive abused the crap out of the CPU. I did build a new one to run ED on however, as my refurbished one had no graphics card installed.

I thought the minimum was the gtx 780 so isn't the 1050ti better?. As I said in my original post I'm completely computer illiterate. All this tech talk is hurting my head

Isn't a Graphics coprocessor the same thing? If it is then it has an NVIDIA GeForce 1050ti. Forgive me if none of this is relevant but I did warn you I'm computer illiterate and I wasn't joking.

I liquidated my PC commander and used my PS5 Fleet Carrier to transfer all the PC credits to the PS5 ready for the transfer back to PC.

Sell stuff from your PS carrier at extortionate prices to your PC CMDR. Then buy it back onto the PS carrier by setting the price low. Then rinse and repeat.

It's just a way of moving your cash between two accounts manually.

If you have a fleet carrier of course ...

You're best asking in PC section, Morbad is fairly good at this. The issue with graphics cards is apparently centred on shaders in concourses. Of course it depends what we're willing to put up with.
I have gtx 3070 capped at 60fps primarily to keep the electric bill in check.
Coming from PS4 it looks incredible, though a few of the PC crowd have turned their noses up.

All this is just going over my head, people are giving me advice and you'd be better off telling it to a monkey. Starting to think maybe it's just time to give up on the game or seriously look into the steam deck option. It's not as good but seems far less complicated

I don’t want my PS4 CMDR name for my new PC account. Can I choose another one? Not sure that has been answered
You can get a new CMDR name if someone already has yours on PC other than that if you want a new name AFAIK you have to start a new game/CMDR. Frontier maybe able to do some voodoo to help you but highly doubtful.

Cheap but still probably good enough.

Costs more, but better and a bit more future proof.

Im guessing you’re in the states? Sorry if I’m wrong.
The above examples are just that, examples.

In your shoes, I would try to go for:
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce rtx 3060 or 3070.
Processor: Amd ryzen 7, 5800x
Memory: 32gb memory
Harddrive: 1tb ssd drive.

I'm in the UK, don't mind shipping from abroad but would prefer something a little more local mainly for a time saving thing. But thank you for the advice, much appreciated

I read the FAQ, so I'm pretty sure I have my answer already. Which is no. I play on PC already, but I was wondering if it would be at all possible to transfer my Current Assets Value/Credits from Console to PC. I put a lot of time in console before transitioning and even if I can't get the ships and stuff from console, it would be nice if I could get my credits back.
