Console Update

Super disappointed. Mostly disappointed in myself.
Disappointed I ever brought ARX to support development
Disappointed I brought more than one copy of the game.
Disappointed I got other people into playing it.
Disappointed I fed and supported communities that promoted this game.
Disappointed I got other Frontier games just to give more money to the studio.

I'll be writing off any Frontier games from this point on.

Hello Games can push out multiple free patches with significant content for free on all formats (soon to include Switch apparently) while having less staff yet this bunch of cowboys could barely keep one format going. Pathetic!
It's not that simple, but HG genuinely are a better developer. They understand the limits of their engine and have been able to (IMO) successfully overhaul their game several times over the years. Their updates do have bugs like Elite's though, but not as many 😁

Hello @David Braben @Bruce G @Zac Cocken.

Thank you for the update, it is a sad decision but given the time you have spent on it I guess you have tried multiple possibilities...

However, when declaring such a news, I think it would have been better to provide a plan B for console players rather than not proposing any alternative such as:
  • Free copy of PC version of ED to console players
  • Moving their characters to PC ED
  • other possibilities I suppose...

Even if not working now, it would have been good to talk about which alternative you are thinking about

Funny because the first version was on the BBC ... But thanks for proving the point being made
BBC Micro Computer
IBM Personal Computer

I played Elite on the C64 & Amiga, the 80s micros were the predecessors of the PC, not the NES, Playstation or Xbox. So we can drop the adjective, and the semantics, and just say that Elite originated as a computer game, and was also available on PC back then too.

I'll take this opportunity to point out that it was also released on the NES, but you don't hear about it much when people talk about the classic NES games or when talking about classic Elite, which bolsters the point that Elite found its success on computer platforms, not consoles.

Lastly, there's nothing toxic about pointing these facts out, or stating that Elite originated as a computer game, not a console game. Splitting hairs to shoehorn pseudo-credibility of fact to fit a narrative on the other hand..

Sorry, it's taken so long for myself and TTE Industries to respond but I took a nap and now my personal assistant in charge of waking me has been fired.

As to the topic at hand its sad but hardly surprising.

TTE Industries stands ready to supply as many eggs as are needed in these obviously trying times.

07 commandos.
Earlier at TTE HQ...

How difficult can it be to port an account from console to PC? Apparently it is pretty much the same if the "bug" others described already allowed it. I'll pay for a PC version, but not if I have to run through all the grinding again to get the ships, engineering, ranks again. Also, I have several decals from various missions and would really like to keep those.

Disappointed, but not surprised by this announcement.

I'm not a console player, so I have no skin in this game, but to me this announcement is tacit admission of the following:
  • Framerate performance in Odyssey is as good as it's ever going to get.
  • Odyssey planet tech will not be merged into Horizons, because it will kill framerates.
  • This is the last DLC that will be made for Elite Dangerous.
I predict we'll see some fairly major updates in Odyssey over the next 6-12 months (e.g. FPS with Thargoids), and then further updates and content will quietly cease.

I've not played the game in months due to its many issues, and this announcement gives me no confidence that I will resume the game in future.

No nothing toxic about pointing that out ... probably not the time and place though given the circumstances ..

Basically what you are saying is Elite has always primarily been a PC game so whats the issue? If you dont understand that then you never will.

Oh and I have probably played ED as much on PC than on console over the years , just so we are clear on that. And I am glad you mentioned the NES version because I would have pulled you up on that if you hadn't.

In the end though you are just rubbing people's faces in it at the worst possible time. So maybe .. you know .. don't.
