Awful news, I wouldn't hold your breath for any transfer options. That's something we've been asking for since 2015, if it were worth putting the effort into it they would've done it long ago. To me, all of this just reinforces how they probably approach developing things. You would think taking a game save from one platform to another would be fairly simple...but their "solution" for this is to have someone go in and manually add up how much all of your assets are worth, and create a new account with that amount as your dollar balance. How is some support person doing all of this manual work over years and years, a better investment than just creating a system that works on both platforms? But it's clear that's been the problem with this game since day 1, there's no forward-thinking and nothing is built for expansion/compatibility, they get things done in the quickest way possible to ship it out and say they've done it, and then worry about the technical debt that has been accrued later down the road.
As someone who has put 2000+ hours into the game, it's just really sad that it's come to this. Have soured quite a bit on Frontier over the last couple of years because of how they've handled this game (and others in their catalog), and this just seals it for me. Even if they do miraculously come out with an account transfer option, I don't think I could bring myself to play anymore knowing their track record. Just feels like they had so much momentum and potential with this game at launch that was completely squandered in favor of making other lackluster games. Just don't understand how you can sit there and watch people dump hundreds of millions of dollars into a competing game and think "maybe we should reallocate most of our development resources to these other games instead". Surely there was a way to better monetize Elite and make it worth developing across all platforms?
