Console Update

This is a genuine question, what should they have done?

Beyond completing development first before announcing it, I guess?
after the paid alpha that wasn't a proper alpha i don't expect anything that makes sense from fdev.

i guess they could've done a proper alpha and no promises to console first, that would be a great start, but i guess they knew odyssey "requirements" and they also knew that old-gen consoles were near their EOL, so they did that to hype it up, but it went downhill.

this is just me assuming of course, fact is odyssey for many PC players is a disaster, and now for every console player, it is their EOL(due to odyssey, but mainly cause their consoles are OLD), so they managed to screw it twice.

Its not slander if its true...it was widely publicised and the share price nose dived because of it. Are you seriously defending the quality of the product upon release. 11 updates needed to fix and a halt on consoles speaks for itself. Don't be deluded as even fdev admitted the issues.
At this point its obviously a troll. Don't waste as much time as I did replying.

11 updates YET, cause 10 updates in and my machine, which by their claims should run odyssey cause it runs horizons, can't run it properly.
unless they call "running" a 10fps(sometimes 5) slideshow.

Fellow PC Cmdrs…starting to miss you already. It was an honour and always my pleasure sharing my time with you. Since FD makes this well planned announcement without an offer for “us” to transfer our profiles, it’s quite clear that there won’t be any offer. Therefore our (console) journey ended today.

Greetings Commanders,

Elite Dangerous is a game close to my heart.

It’s no secret that Odyssey’s launch was less than ideal, including the need to split the PC/console player base to focus on a PC-only launch. Since Odyssey’s release in May 2021, we have worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and whilst we have made great progress there is still more to be done. We have been supporting the pre-Odyssey and post-Odyssey codebases since.

Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.

We appreciate this news is not what our console community were hoping for. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was made with the long-term future of Elite Dangerous in mind.
NOOOOOOO... I have PS4! :-( The last game I played is over...

Very sad news. I would love to see them at least try to make it up to the console community by working out a way to do complete account transfers to pc; Including skins etc that we’ve paid for over the years. In the mean time, maybe give everyone on console the cobra mkIV if they don’t have it? They have to try and make it up to us somehow right?
Nope, they don't

Will Horizons on console continue to influence the game universe on Odyssey/ PC? Can console players still affect the BGS, tag systems, make marke in the in game universe still? Will Horizons on console still have events and Community Goals and rewards for continuing to play the game? Trying to get clarification for friends and fellow players @Bruce G @Paul_Crowther

I do think fdev should proffer an explanation as to why they pulled the plug on consoles.
As previously posted alot of time and money (arx) has gone into it and now to be told its over with no port over....
Seems harsh...
So yes a detailed explanation perhaps to avoid a lawsuit

Why would you want to transfer your account when you can just buy the PC version and not do anything stupid.

I am participating in this conversation in order to express my full support and approval of the actions of fdev, as well as to explain to this crowd of whiners that happened only for the better!
Okay guys, according to this person you are all a bunch of whiners, the discussion is over. No anti customer practices to see here, move along

Because those accounts represent hundreds if not thousands of hours of investment into the game and not just credits but ARX purchases and limited time event items that CANNOT be replaced. I know it might seem a small thing, but I earned my Distant Worlds decals, I earned my Wolves of Jonai decal. And if Fdev puts in the "Expedition 4 Evelyn" decal into the game, I will have earned that too. The various things that our commanders can collect like these items represent momentos and badges of achievement of real stories of people and events.

And yes, you're god damn right I want that transferred if I have to move to PC. I'm already disappointed enough, and I'm trying to be reasonable in understanding there are real technical issues as to WHY this decision was made. But the last thing we need right now is someone coming in here and rubbing salt in the wound and telling us "Just forget it and start over." calling these people whiners and crybabies.

Who the hell do you think you are coming in here and casting these judgements?
Mr. Braben has already said that this was done to improve the quality of the game.

Can we now have a way transfer console accounts to PC please? Seen as it's dead on console now? Thanks.
100% this … BUT … I already have a PC CMDR where I have started to play Odyssey. I do not want to lose all that progress and I do not want 2 PC accounts … so can we please have a way to transfer specific Ranks, Materials, Ships and Modules to a PC CMDR as additions to that CMDR, rather than an overwrite?

They clearly never considered that EDO would present such a performance problem, and so never considered how much of a problem it would then be to convert to console. That meant they announced - in good faith presumably - the 3 platforms for EDO before they had really developed it.

Again I'm not really sure how else it could have gone. If they had announced it only for pc? It would have resulted in this same anger. But they didn't expect it couldn't be done.

Basically I'm saying it's not easy, and they have presumably attempted all of this with the best intentions. Hasn't worked.

Ouch, this will hurt... In many ways, even pcs since horizons codebase will have to be kept alive, wasting resources (even if it sounds like what you want to avoid).

We are exploring options for transfers but at present have nothing to announce.
If full transfers are not possible … perhaps one-off rank increases or material packages so we can at least have a fighting chance of engineering up a fleet close to what we had on console?
