Console Update

Well some will fall into disbelief as deep down they really think having just one platform is the best for the game.

They ignore the fact that the game has been translated and dubbed for countries where the currency is not strong, mainly Brazil. The game clearly planned to be based on mass microtransactions and
odyssey is perfect for that.

The lack of data transfer not only in the announcement of the cancellation, but until now. Makes me question the decision. After all, once the transfer is released, it is probably impossible to go back, as many will probably sell consoles or invest massively to play only Elite.

About being better for the game... maybe it's for those universes that play, on their micros that don't understand what lack of investment or the general public do with an interest that is making the game. It is undeniable that since the game came to consoles, the community has grown a lot, and we are seeing it gradually decrease.

So, for financial reasons, I think they will go back. It's not just about not making money with Elite on consoles, but losing all the investment in attracting new players and advertising and development so far, in addition to the damage to the company's image. This is all a major loss that will likely be spent to make ED:O work on the new generation of consoles.

The console's cancellation announcement was ideal for both sides, the PC side that think "this will be the best for the game" that can still wonder what "story we have to follow" as the consoles side that don't Will they charge and not float the lives or ads?

So yeah, I don't think it's over. For the simple fact that they have gone too far to give up possible consumers.

Will we see the apology?
Are you kidding me? What you provided has nothing to do with the issue at hand, and in any case, it is just one guy saying something on one Reddit post, without any element to prove what he says, and who pretend it has been fixe before anyone col ask for proof.... I mean, if I tell you: "You know, I managed to crack the game and got Elite V in EDH. Sadly, I have no screenshots, go figure" - Do you trust me?

The evidences is somewhere in this thread and other threads. They patched it out long time ago and said it was a "bug". Plenty of games with cross progression out there and Frontier said we can't do it. 😐
This is not evidence. Just a guy talking, no screenshot, no record, no video, no datas, nobody has ever seen it, and it has magically been "fixed" before anybody can prove it, convenient isn't it?... I mean, get real: if it was there, why on Earth would Frontier not apply it NOW? Wake up: they would do it TODAY, as it would be a huge positive for the game and themselves!

I actually, despite being in my mid 40s and suffering from a bit of excess lockdown weight that may or may not have something to do with copious amounts of beer the last two and a bit years - shattered Usain Bolt’s 100m world record this past weekend, with a time of 6.93 seconds.

I’m a random on the internet, posting on a forum, so it must be true.

If you read the Reddit thread there are “official” replies from frontier stating it is a bug and they have fixed it!

Thank you for the link, as a PC player from the start, I was not aware of that issue. But if I may, that is widely different from what the first post suggested: someone who somehow managed to link his accounts. Here we are talking about some bug where he accessed the console save from XBOX live on PC, but not as it's CMDR avatar, as a random (suggesting the thing would have collapsed into a fatal bug and the account would have been lost, as these "ghost saves" always do), and it was merely an "image" of the console account, not a portage to the newly created PC account, which changes pretty much everything. That being said, I repeat it: portage HAS to be done. Frontier must find a way, whatever it takes. And I don't see why this couldn't be done in the end, at the very least for the ranks, as progression is just static datas.

If you carefully read frontiers response it says “share a save”. Why can’t they just move the save from Xbox to PC?

Interesting indeed. Thanks for sharing. I am curious now what the hold up is unless this bug is hard to replicate...

I can't imagine either Sony or MS would have an issue with this allowing CMDRs to move. Unfortunately there is no future for me with console Elite now development has ended for Odyssey.

The only cross-save game Sony ever seemed to have an issue with was Fortnite and this was because most players were on PlayStation and they feared they were losing revenue. So Epic agreed to pay Sony for the privilege.

Elite is utterly niche on PlayStation and must account for an absolute miniscule amount earnings potential these days. Plus with the Odyssey debacle many (including me) no longer regularly play on PlayStation.

Please Frontier sort this out so I can at least enjoy Elite Dangerous again.

Odyssey is fun on PC but, I don't want to invest time 'doing progression' if there is a chance I can move my PlayStation CMDR over. Unfortunately my gaming time is not unlimited to warrant doing this multiple times.

Well I can't imagine that there's a technical reason why the transfer process can't be made to work. Even if Sony and MS don't have an issue, it's possible that their existing contracts with Frontier do not allow it. Unpicking those contracts may be the thing that's delaying any announcement, and we all know how lawyers like to drag things out. :)

Ditto, there is bound to be some sort of clause re protection of future revenue etc. but for a game as niche as this one fingers crossed sense will prevail and then FDev can crack on moving all the shiny to new PC accounts...

This is a good point. I've seen a few people say the platform holders are cool with it now, but they absolutely were not when ED first launched on either console and it's likely those terms would still stand subject to mutual renegotiation.

Here we all are again … reminds me of petitioning for a PS5 version and asking for news on Odyssey for almost a year … at least the company is good. 👍

If an account “transfer” is a contractually complex issue, just offer PlayStation and XBox CMDRs “reputation” and “engineer unlock” codes that we can redeem on a PC CMDR of our choice to help catch us up.

Could that be abused by some console CMDRs not actually stopping playing on console now having two CMDRs (console and PC) with everything unlocked? Sure. But for the love of Braben, who cares??!!!

I have no idea, but there has to be a very good reason, because they perfectly know how sensitive the issue is... A dev (not from Frontier) who works on that kind of stuff once said that these datas are coded differently on consoles/PC, so it would require Frontier to "recode" most of it, unless some smart trick is found, hence the issue. That being said, we actually don't need a real portage: CMDR can simply get a new account with some "cheat mode" (for older players) that enables them to get ranks and réputation (these are literally one word), engineers lock/unlock, and their ships. We can also imagine to give CMDRs a one-off X billion credit (with a formula that links the X to the time spent in-game) and 150 free units of every commoditiy/data to help rebuilt their shipyard from scratch. Then, for the CODEX, I'm afraid the issue is more complex.

Simple solution…not sure why this is taking so long.

Look at what Elder Scrols Online did to their console launch delay.

Offer a snap shot in time of limited things. I would suggest the following:
Reputations
Enginner unlocks
ship unlocks
system unlocks
credit transfer

Anything else is a plus…we just dont want to have to start over because the dev team decided to stop working on the game platform they sold us on.
