News Content Recap: Beyond - Chapter Four Livestream - Background Simulation and Scenarios

Yea that would be fun. Also would be fun to have missions that would do things like incite underground uprisings or browncoat resistance in a war... maybe missions to exploit a treasonous turncoat or a double agent": take a mission that is hinted at by a traitor to the other faction... a comm message... to go steal some materials or destroy a stash of weapons or supplies.. to intercept a transport and destroy it or loot it.

+1

And eg. finding 'their' Battle Plans spawns extra Elite NPC to your side.

In the sample you weren't swarmed when you picked a side.

I think having a super-duper engineered Corvette might have helped matters a little bit there!

Real men still fly Eagle in High CZ's, imho. Though props to the Viper vs Megaship

Awesome stuff! I'm happy to file under suspension-of-disbelief the question of how a famine could start with neighbouring systems merely minutes away. Or maybe famines only happen during economic crashes, so it's more a question of food affordability than availability.

More importantly, I want to know the happiness states! I assume that "Elated" falls short of "Exuberant" and perhaps "Ecstatic" while still being better than "Jovial", "Giddy", and "Hopeful". Below the neutral state - surely "Oblivious" - I hope to see "Miffed", "Peeved", "Despondent", and "Despairing".

A thought.

when you encounter an NPC with a request you seem to have only two options. Give them what they want, or refuse. If you want players to be able to leave and come back with the right equipment or cargo, you need a third option ("I'll be right back") which might also add a bit of time on the timer so it doesn't expire while you get what they need.

HAHAHHAHAAAHahhahaa I like that. (tongue in cheek)

I think that is already possible.. you ACCEPT it to help.. then you just go get it and come back.. not sure you need to tell them "I will be right back"... but i guess that would be nice to have anyway.

this is the first time i read a recap from frontier, don't understand squat, and don't even care.

congratulations for whatever, y'all!
It's ok. Faction warfare mechanics aren't for everyone, and prefer their gameplay depth to be elsewhere.

Have fun with Open Only Powerplay in 2019 :)

They have basically created powerplay 2.0 with player factions.

It will suffer the same despair as the current powerplay issues we have today.

Its people affecting one other intentionally.

There has to be some sort of risk and reward factor between the people involved. And not just NPC's that are in the way.

These are people battling it out. We're no longer fighting against the game itself.

Just watched video. Looks nice. Most definitely makes BGS and all things more interesting and engaging. (i.e. depth of content? ;))

Thats neat.

Its a dumb move. Its creates a very unbalanced game. And the game is toxic because the people arent engaging each other. Leaving the people that arent involved to be griefed.

If they want griefing in their game to continue.

Then leave it like it is. And the game will still continue to be toxic because of it.

We gonna go another 5 years with " I got blown up for no reason posts "?

Its 2018. Lets start moving forward a bit here.

People need an understanding of what they are getting into. And leaving it like it is. Is not helping the community at all.
Tbf, that's what Powerplay is for, as per the very popular changes proposed earlier this year.

FDev have always described Powerplay as the group-PvP metagame, not the BGS (competitive group-PvE), as much as I'd like to see both become heavily direct-PvP driven (because of the enormous emergent gameplay potential).

Now that the BGS is getting large-scale improvements, the already-proposed Powerplay changes should be pushed (by the community) into FDev's focus.

Better get your big boi pants on and start playing Powerplay.

Baloney Sandwich! There have always been player factions fighting each other with BGS tactics. this changes nothing. Changes how the BGS Works but does not all of a sudden pit each faction against the others. You will still mostly be doing combat against other NPC factions is all.

Powerplay has always been "BGS for dummies"... less mechanics less options.. the BGS competitive nature has always been more interesting. In reality the Powerplay system need a bigger upgrade and rethink than the BGS did and... teh BGS needed changes. I like what I see so far.

Its just a shame a player faction cant defend themselves because the attacker gets to opt out of an direct attack against them. It really kills player group engagements and turns the BGS into who has more time than the other guys.

You should easily be able to halt someones progress against you. Especially with UA bombing or killing your system authority. And those new scenarios where you get to attack or defend conflict zones and mega ships.

I feel frontier are really shooting themselves in the foot.

At the very least they could apply the weighted success they spoke about with powerplay. And apply it to this. So that way everyone can still be involved. And it would promote the interaction while still giving winning and losing conditions. They should really just go ALL IN!

Otherwise, were just gonna continue to fight over 1 system for 10 months in a never ending battle with no progression.

I Would really like to see some progression out of that. Especially in places like colonia. Where this type of gameplay would be out of control.

Oh baby it would be so hot. So gooood!

But they really have to break away from what we have now. I really hope they have something up their sleeve.

That was a good livestream (again). The BGS really needed a cleanup and straightening out after all the tinkering done to it over the years and that's exactly what it got. The new scenarios look and sound great too. I can't wait for beta to begin.

I hope someone at FD is reading this, because this is about the stream itself, not the actual content reveal: the audio is too low. Like, the volume is like a third or half of what it should be. I have to turn my volume way up to twice my normal setting and it is still below normal talking volume.

Edit: Okay, after like two minutes or so they turn up the volume. Still too low to work at normal levels, but at least a bit better.

Ooooh, okay. See the way they showed it, it seemed like only a binary situation. Either you can do it or you can't. The way the options in the fuel and food scenarios were worded, it didn't seem to allow for "I can't help you right now but I can come back" if you see what I mean.

Saying "I don't have any food" isn't the same as "I don't want to help you." And it makes little sense to say "Donate food" if you don't have any.

Really, they need to rethink how to word those OR add a third option.

RE: Conflict Zones

In the sample you weren't swarmed when you picked a side. Is this a normal condition or just a dev perk? IE: will it still be SOP to boost away from everyone then pick a side unless you just want to be instantly swarmed by every red contact in the area?

He was probably in a high intensity CZ, those are paradoxically safer than low intensity ones. I'd rather fight a single corvette than a wing of 4 or 6 railgun eagles.
