Content Recap - Beyond - Chapter Four Livestream - Exploration and the Codex

People, look - there will be no more Basic and Intermediate scanners - they are being removed.

Forget probe synthesis which would require materials gathering - there's already a load of mat gathering required already. The decision to not require synthesis was an excellent one and good for the majority of folks playing the game.

"The DSS passively gathers the materials required from the trace gas and dust already present in outer space." - done.

Just finished watching the livestream on catchup.

Alec happy. More than happy actually ... dare I say joyfull? Partly at what they showed (much of which I'd already seen, but not all, and certainly not the Orrery) but also at the reaction all over the forum. It's just so nice to see everyone generally being so positive.
Was a shame there was little about POIs though.

Have you seen anything related to POIs? If it's NDA blink once for yes, twice for no.

If you are very far from the correct tuning area, these waveforms will not appear at all.

Does this mean for systems that have bodies 100,000++ Ls away, that these distance additional stellar bodies (within a single system) will not ne detected on the initial sweep?

There is one thing I noticed during the stream which I really really do not like (but understand why it may be useful for some players) is the addition of more button/keypress instructions ie press "A" to do xxx press "X" etc .etc.

- Separate UI for the scanners is a huge downer.

- devs showed in the stream that we can scan the system very fast.
I can imagine that after some hours of exploring most of the pilots will "discover" the planets just in seconds and I can imagine that this could feel like a not so well done minigame...
Maybe just give us an additional ai/auto-discover mode?

COMMUNAL DISCOVERIES

Thanks to feedback from the exploration community, we’ve made an important change in how exploration data will be shared across all Commanders.

Once any Commander has discovered and sold data about any stellar body, every single Commander’s ship computer will be updated no matter where you are in the galaxy, giving you the basic information for those bodies once you enter the system. This information is similar to the data you currently receive from an initial system scan; many populated systems will provide more data including the name of the bodies.

So do I get this right?

I'm out in the void, 20klys away from the bubble, and I jump into a system a cmdr. visited and sold the data already, for me, the system will show all bodies after the honk?

Not quite, it will show all the bodies as unexplored before the honk.

Just to repost something I just wrote elsewhere about my understanding of this ...

Exploration data share - awesome. I'm eager to see how it'll work, but the idea of exploring space to benefit everyone warms my heart as it is.
It's nice to finally be able to say that this was the "subtle and elegant" change I hinted at after my FD visit which they'd made to the discovery mechanics so that "sometimes" we would be able to see a completed system map after the honk. Essentially, if nobody has ever scanned the system before (and handed in their data) then you have to use the new discovery interface to fill out the system map, but if someone else has been there before then it's automatically filled out for you as at present. Not only does this support some of the old "traveller" discovery tactics that people have become accustomed to, but also, almost as a side-effect, it suddenly supports this idea of the community unveiling the galaxy as they go. Personally I think it's a genius idea.

It's funny, something as simple as this added to the description would make me feel better.
...i'm weird. :)

I don't know how fast it will get old but the new scanning mechanics looked insanely fun in the livestream.

What especially hyped me was the announcement of rumored stuff in the Codex for the sectors. Sounds like the Formidine Rift mystery all over!

Couldn't post in the chat of the livestream so here goes the /clap /clap /clap

At which rate should we be able to launch probes ?
The fact is with unlimited probes, we can spam all the planet without thinking about gravity, number of probes left etc.

It makes probing rather a new spamming button technic over a well planed mapping.

Do you agree ?

I think Adam said something about only three active probes at any one time. So you can fire off three - pop pop pop - but you then have to wait for them to hit the surface before you can fire off the next three?

"only three active probes at any one time. So you can fire off three - pop pop pop - but you then have to wait for them to hit the surface before you can fire off the next three?"

And the possibility to engineer a scanner that can handle more probes at once (not much use for those already a long way out)

Did they say that? (must have missed it). OK - that's a cool idea.

Are HCS and Malic in the loop - re interface changes, so they can get started on any VA profile changes. Likewise I second the call for a few extra key mappings like "request docking" etc.

You can build a playlist of your discovered logs..... Will those logs still disappear after 30 days....... if not will all the logs I have already seen re-appear? What about POI texts? Will the interface for all these logs be collapsible and categorised to be usable?

When I select a destination via the galaxy map while attempting my first rares route - will the system view be available for system discovered by others?

If I am carrying cargo and enter a system that is new to me, currently I Honk and can then start heading to a likely station. The new process may mean examining the discover graph etc to find stations leaving my ship drifting as a target for pirates a lot longer that currently. Also currently I can keep an eye on the radar for incoming hostiles, but if I am looking at a separate UI I will not be able to do this. So has trading become more dangerous?

There was a little hint that some bodies will already have been "First mapped" when the release goes live. If so what would determine which bodies have been "First mapped" would it be certain types of POI, or would it be bodies mapped during Beta, or just ones that the developers want to flag first?

Other that the above - It looks damn good.
