Content Recap - Beyond - Chapter Four Livestream - Exploration and the Codex

Orrery map, GUI update, explo. mechanics and codex. It all looks bloody good doesn't it?

I really haven't got a single complaint.

Even the space golf looks fun. [yesnod]

One thing not many people are talking about......does anyone here believe that the new UI's & Codex will significantly decrease reliance on 3rd party websites, & other resources?

Mengy, you obviously were still asleep when Adam said the above when they were shooting out the probes.

Default is max 3, increase number of probes in flight through engineering, they didn't mention different flight speeds though....

Yes, but he didn't mention modded DSS having finite ammo, which is kind of the point. :)

My slice of feedback

Hi Commanders,
COMMUNAL DISCOVERIES

Coooooooool, I like this. Makes a bit more sense. Should scans of these discovered stellar bodies be rewarding less credits than they currently do, though? (I reckon they should...down with Road to Riches :p )

UPGRADED SCANNERS – FULL SYSTEM SCANNER

Sounds like it's set to become a big part of system navigation. The process looks good to me, and I've heard good stuff so far. [up]

UPGRADED SCANNERS – DETAILED SURFACE SCANNER

It only hit me recently that this is reminiscent of Mass Effect's probing minigame - which I'll say is a good thing. Unlimited probe ammo strays a bit from "muh immersion", but then, if we're talking something like disposable nano-machine probes...? Alternatively I can head-canon it that all the materials we get gets partially used for this, in amounts minute enough to not worry about. So, I reckon I'm on board with this.

OTHER THINGS TO FIND

I REALLY like the listed changes to USS's.

One thing I'm not sure of is, does this also apply to non-permanent Planetary POI's?

LEAVING YOUR MARK AND MAKING MORE MONEY

Hm, I think increasing 'first discovery' bonus is good, 'first mapped' is okay, but I still reckon scanning already-known stuff should be worth less than it is now.

A NEW WAY OF LOOKING AT THINGS

Did you guys mention the ORRERY?! Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. You rascals, hiding the fact you were making the Orrery come to life after all....

THE CODEX

[up][up]

The archive is a neat addition I didn't think of, cool!

Also, I see what you did with "42 regions". Nice touch, lol

I really like this 'rumoured' thing too, again something I didn't have any inkling could be possible before. This 'breadcrumb trail' sounds like exactly what many CMDRs are looking for, and it's cool how it creates a new means of interacting with other players.

I wonder how much time I'm about to spend browsing through the Knowledgebase.... :D

VISUAL IMPROVEMENTS

Night vision pulse...sounds cool, and I wager will be a much-appreciated touch particularly for miners.

COCKPIT NAVIGATION IMPROVEMENTS

UI improvements are always appreciated, and the changes seem to go far enough that this will mark a new stage of the game experience. Still no customization though?

"If you have mapped planet on which you’re able to land that contains points of interest such as Thargoid Imprints or Guardian Ruins, Settlements, or Wrecked Ships, they will appear as targetable markers."

Nice. So that's what they're called now?

Btw anybody knows what's become of Sandro? I kind of miss him. His last post dates from June. Hm. #rememberbazmeson

Killed a baddie named Space Loach in the vicinity of Colonia yesterday, but I swear it was an NPC.

EDIT: Ok, he's presumed to be happy at least (and T7 never looked as good): https://twitter.com/StripedWormLair/status/1053234435963920384 :D

We (EDCD) have come to the conclusion that this will not be the case, as they still offer more convenience than having to go into a ship HUD menu to find out info on - say - a particular planet you've scanned.

Time will tell though.

"only three active probes at any one time. So you can fire off three - pop pop pop - but you then have to wait for them to hit the surface before you can fire off the next three?"

And the possibility to engineer a scanner that can handle more probes at once (not much use for those already a long way out)

The only three at once was referring to the clip size, once fired they reload quite quickly and certainly before they land. Engineering will increase the clip size.

ETA: around the 1 hour 12 minute mark.

Is the new discovery scanner a core internal now?

The new Discovery Scanner will still be an optional internal module. All that has changed in regard to that is that all previous Discovery Scanners are now a single module: Advanced Discovery Scanner'. Everyone's Discovery Scanner will be replaced with the Advanced Discovery Scanner, so if you're out in the black, you won't need to return home to get a new scanner.

Might there be a textured view of the orrey like you folks did with the system map to complement the geometric view?

It's not currently planned at this time.

Would player events such as community expeditions be included in the Knowldge Base? (I'm very curious to know what's written in Colonia)

It's not currently planned at this time.

Will the new system scanning system locate objects like generation ships and Voyager?

Yep, the new system will make points of interest, such as Voyager 1, much easier.

Didn't really seem to touch on any differences with the 3 current discovery scanners(Basic, Intermediate, Advanced). Is it just going to be one single discovery scanner now, or will there be some kind of limitations/advantages for each that wasn't shown in the livestream?

It will be one single Discovery Scanner now (the Advanced Discovery Scanner). You will need an additional module (the Detailed Surface Scanner) for probing interstellar bodies.

The one immediate question I have from the summary is about the scan mode. Can you still fly the ship while in this mode?

You are throttled to zero when using the FSS, but you are not when using the Detailed Surface Scanner (DSS).

Please add a countdown for the Efficiency target when shooting probes. Like 3/6 fired.

Good idea! We intend to have this shown in the user interface.

With the new system of discovered and mapped data being made available to any commanders who arrive in a system discovered/mapped by another commander are we still going to be unable to scan these planets to collect and upload this data for the communities use?

Yep, Commanders can still scan bodies using the FSS to gain more information and sellable Exploration Data.

If it hasn't been thought about, can we please have it enabled that you can still use the new ADS mechanic to "re-scan" already discovered planets to not only view the data on screen but also report that planets data to the CMDR's log as it current does now? This would be a huge benefit for those of us who choose to upload data for the communities use.

You can zoom in on bodies, even if you've already discovered them.

Question/concern: will asteroid belt cluster now yield credits, too?

Nope, Asteroid Clusters will not provide credits for scanning them at this time.

Did someone notice / can someone confirm if the new scan mode can only be used in supercruise or if it works in normal space?

Both the Discovery Scanner and the Detailed Surface Scanner can only be used in Supercruise.

I'm checking the HUD and UI changes, im looking to see if there was a dimmer or on/off light switch added for ship internals.
have you ever driven a car with internal light no...

some internals are bright.... I hear VR is worse

Not that I saw unfortunately, and yes those internal lights can be quite distracting in VR. While I can only speak for my own experience with the Vive, I find those cockpit lights and the Vives lenses tend to create a fair bit of the halo effect.

So right before the patch everyone needs to sell their 1.3m credit ADS and buy a 850 credit BDS lol.

Anything about the payout regarding the mapping/probing of a planet? Like if I get around 700k for an ELW now what would I get for probing it? 50% on top, 100, 200%? Also what is the first-discovery bonus for mapping, 50% like with the normal first discovery?

(I assume the current payout for a DSS-scan of a body is not changed in 3.3?)

The signals I get in the FSS mode for finding planets/types: do they also tell me (if I'm knowledgeable enough) if the WW/HMC etc is a terraforming candidate/does a terraformable body have a different signiture compared to the same non-terraformable-body type?

I'm out in the void with a DSS engineered with a G5 long range scan, what will happen to that upgrade? Will I lose it or will it be replaced with a new upgrade?
