News Content Recap: Beyond - Chapter Four Livestream - Exploration and the Codex

Somethings I was less impressed with weas the new lighting as far as it effects your HUD and illuminated controls. It should have no effect, it would be like using electroinc flash to photograph something on the television. :) I'm sure I could achieve the same effect on a still in photoshop by bring up the contrast and saturation. I don't want my control lights any punchier, I already have them on minimum illumination, it is a bit concerning that these "improvements" are sparkling up things that are self illuminating. In general, the stills shown I felt looked a bit on the garish side, but I accept that's completely subjective.
Me too.

I have a feeling they might back pedal a bit on the infinite probes, maybe they'll do something like 1 synthesis to make 5000 probes.
Anyway, whilst I think having infinite probes is rather unrealistic, I'm not that bothered by it :p.

One thing I don't recall being mentioned is whether the new FSS will have infinite range like the current ADS does......

Anyway, from seeing just the 1 livestream so far, I think the new updates are going to be fantastic! I'm really looking forwards to trying them out, excited even!
I can't wait to plaster suitable RBs & HMCs looking for new Thargoid Structures! :D
Oh & try out all the new mining activities!

Well done FDev! (subject to actually trying them out ;)).

Perhaps 1 tonne of fuel could be converted to 1000 probes. Or introduce using fuel scoop on gas giants to scoop material to synthesise probes.

I really love the new game enhancements. Each and every one. The new exploration mechanics are just what the doctor ordered and what the patient needed imho. The present method of exploration is way too simple, so simple that a one eyed baboon with cataracts can do it. Much too simple. Anytime elite dangerous gets more scientifically, I get goosebumps. The only question I have is this, will the discoveries that beta access players make become permanent in their logs or will they reset back to pre beta? Really not fair for console players, that other players due to beta will be making 1st mapping discoveries in some of the most sought after systems.

Beta is completely seperate..... nothing what will be done in beta will find the way to the live system, so don't worry...

several ways I can look at this:

your a two year old and it’s the only word you know

you have a 2yr old who just happened to post on here (funnily enough some would argue increasing the average age of 90% of the forums posters)

your so incandescant with rage over these proposed changes NO is all you could type before you collapsed

I have to say I felt very positive about 90% of the material shown. I'm a bit confused about the community exploration thing, from what I understood the new exploration scanning is only going come into effect when you arrive in a system that nobody else has scanned and sold the data of? So presumably, you'd need to get well outside the bubble to see it in action?

That's a good question, one that I was wondering as well. I expect that the you'll still use the FSS to scan the objects that show up as "Unexplored" in the nav panel, so you will be able to use it. However, the system map will still be available as well as it is now. This means that you won't get the full exploration experience inside the discovered bubble, but you will still be able to test out the FSS. This is a brilliant system because it allows for people to effectively have the results of the old ADS within discovered space, but also allows for deeper Fog-of-War gameplay at the edges of explored space.

I like what I saw but still very confused as to how the improved scanners will translate into improved exploration gameplay once the the drudgery of mapping is taken out of the equation.

Didn't you just answer your own question? With the new system you are able to map the entire system from the entry point (with the new scanner interface) and have no need to fly anywhere else unless you wish to probe map any particular body, no long SC rides out to star 2,3,4,5 etc. As poi's will be indicated it is up to the commander if they warrant probe mapping.

I translated this to an improvement in that those same poi's would be hard to find without a lot of patience. FWIW I have yet to find a volcano or geyser on the first discoverd by me planets, after quite a lot of searching (plenty of escape capsules though!) so the new mechanics give me something positive for my exploration. YMMV

Ever flown for 10-15 minutes in supercruise to reach and scan the planets at a secondary star 420,000+ Ls out? Just to reiterate: it will save a ton of time on scanning all the bodies in a system, even without the extremely distant secondary etc.
stars.

Yes... the current "honk and move on" style of exploration will take a little longer now... but then again, the spectral scale will already give you an overview of the system after honking, even if the map itself isn't populated yet without scanning the individual bodies. You still can honk, check in the spectrum if there is rockies, icies, gasies etc... just not as pre-chewed as it is now.

I finally had the time to watch the full video and I must say I'm very pleased by what was presented. Can't wait for the next livestream. Great job so far and I can't believe there is still more to come.

PS: I like the style of presentation in this livestream a lot. In the past Frontier livestreams were a bit too boisterous on occasion. That can be entertaining but it is also quite taxing for a non-native speaker like me. I sometimes quit watching halfway through because I became exhausted from having to concentrate on listening so hard.

What is your estimation of how fast we discover lost human settlements that are waiting to be rescued?. They have been out there in the black for the last two years. It would be great that having found them, we can help them by flying supplies, materials to help build or just save their base.

FDev I love the changes and that you listen to the communities concern over probe limits, keep them unlimited.

So I've got a bunch of questions around the DSS:

How long will a partial completed scan last, is there a timer, will they vanish if you Wake?
What happens if I cruise in SC over a planet, will it contribute towards scanning a planet if close enough, even if at a much smaller radius maybe?

As I understood it, their is no partial scan, you either FSS it or you don't. If you do an FSS & jump on (honk & jump), you can sell the data at UC (which is only for the star).
You have to zoom into the bodies to get a scan of the bodies in the system.
Re SC, they didn't mention anything about that, so I assume not.

The honk will give credits for all bodies, but wont reveal them.
