Core Dynamics may not be making them but that doesn't mean they're not being made. IIRR ships like the Gecko, Mamba and Krait were supposed to be manufactured all over the place.

The reason I used the term Chinese knock-offs is because it's fairly common knowledge that a lot of illegal fake goods (IRL) originate from China.
AFAIK Calling somone that lives in China, Chinese, isn't racist.

Of course, this being the future, and considering how we have 3D printing now and where the future will take it, isn't it fair to assume (and I'm dead serious here) that every station you go to manufactures its own ships? Maybe in the last hundred years (since Frontier/First Encounters) they stopped having used ship lots and single factories and now build them on site, on demand. When you look at the shipyard, you're looking at the ships they are licensed to produce by the manufacturers, which explains why it's always the same list and they always start off looking the same (back in F/FF the lists would change along with paint jobs... took me forever to find the Cobra MKIII I wanted with shark teeth decal )
