Core-Trippers

I've read several posters on the forum who seem to consider just scanning the main star to be a form of galactic vandalism !

Personally I think there's enough stars for everyone.....do ya'll disagree with that ?

I'm a bit mixed on that matter, I kinda understand the feeling so I usually scan the main star only if I'm ready to detail scan the entire system… All or nothing.
At the same time, whenever I come across a system where some but not all bodies have already been tagged by another Cmdr, I'm happy to get a chance to put my name on whatever's left.

There are indeed stars for everyone.

I'm farming neutron stars so 99% of the time scan star and move on. I might detour for ELW/WW but time wise it is hard going with the quantity of neutrons available. I haven't yet seen a single one scanned by someone else in the current field, so chances of them running out are very disant. Plenty of fresh ones left!

I set off for a quick trip to the Pleiadies nebula on the 13th March, I'm currently heading back from the core at around 12 kylies out.;). Around 3000+ systems scanned so far, it will be interesting to see what the payout is.

I honk every system and scan every main star (creating permanent record of my journey). Beyond that, I'll only surface scan interesting bodies like ELWs, water worlds, neutrons, and black holes.

Apparently this the "wrong" way to explore the galaxy ;) and doing this ruins it for "proper" explorers. ;)

I'm about 22kly out and I haven't seen a "First Discovered by" tag for about 20kly. So I reckon I can do what I want, where I want, and no one will be the wiser - probably for about a hundred years :p

I'm currently just over 2000ly from Sagi A.

I'm at 91% and have a stuttering FDS.

I'm praying that the last part of this trip is quiet... Hehe

And p.s don't drink extra strong craft ales and fly. I crashed 7 times the other night though ale related incidents :D

I left civilized space on April 19th.. i knew Sag A was already scanned.. so i set sail for different areas... HOWEVER... Sag A is on my list of places to visit this run.. Just so i can say i been there.... so far i am still 2000-3000 Ly from Sag A...while having covered more than 1200 systems and 30k Ly of jumps... i'm ( barring getting ganked at Sag A.. i play open only) probably still 2 months away from hitting Civilized space again.

Nice to see others as enthusiastic for exploration as i am.....also..@!^#&$)(^# to those sitting and waiting for explorers in distant lands...

You're unlikely to be ganked in Sag A* these days, CMDR Metta took over the "Sag A* Defence Force" watch from CMDRs Anuranium and Nightshady. His Anaconda is currently keeping the centre of the galaxy safe for visiting explorers and racers.

Send CMDR Metta a friend request and he'll try to ensure that your arrival is a safe one. :D

I've departed Sag A* after my second Buckyball Run, and I'm going to do real exploring and see how far to the galactic east I can make it.

To answer the original poster's question from my point of view, there are a handful of Buckyball Runners who've made it to Sag A* in less than 12 hours, and many more who've done it in a single sitting. 14 hours seems to be about average for an Asp, rushing there in one sitting. So if you just wanted to get there as fast as possible it would be easy in an Asp (or an exploration equipped Type 6) to make it there in a week, with perhaps 2 hours travel and 1 hour scanning per day.

I stayed around the Sag A* area for a week and popped back in when I could to greet other Buckyball Runners as they arrived. Doing this I also met a few visiting explorers who'd taken weeks or months to get there.

Regardless of how long they had taken to arrive, everyone was delighted to get there. It's an extremely long journey so whether you are a crazy racer like me, a dedicated explorer like some of my new friends or a galactic tourist, you just need to find a pace you're happy with and something to motivate you to keep going - the next scan, that beautiful nebula 3000LY ahead, or the fastest time ever!

Everyone who's ever made it there (or failed to get there) will admire you just as much, whether you get there in 8h 43m or 365 days. Fly Safe CMDR!

EDIT - Oops! I just noticed that most of my post is an answer to a different thread, rather than the original poster's question! Lol

So anyway, my first rush-there-rush-back trip to Sag A* (and Great Annihilator) netted me 20MCr, just pinging each star system with my ADS while I refueled and charged the FSD. This is actually a case where a shorter range ship would have faired better, as they'd have pinged more systems.

I'll be doing a lot more scanning on my scenic route back this time, although I'll still make speed runs between interesting places. I'm hoping to get at least 40MCr this time to ensure that I'll be past the level for Pioneer.

My trip to Sag A* ended in an unpleasant ship destruction just 1 jump away while on the Galaxy Map. Ticketed - Never heard a y bird. Only took 4.5 days to get there, but I do normally travel fast - 0cr

Second trip out was to discover the NS Fields (they were not public knowledge then) - 30m

3rd trip to discover Ocampa and Borg Space (basically the Far Rim) - 70m

Last trip was to farm NS for 30m so I could get to Elite before 1.3. I found the Lower NS plane about 4 Kylie from Sol and followed it towards the big NS fields. Never got there. I got to 250 NS by about 11 Kylie out and turned around, I had the 450 NS I needed by time I got back. - 35m

Sagittarius A*

Its a popular destination. I went there just to see it for myself.

When I got back home (8 weeks later) I was stunned and delighted to be rewarded with 66 million credits and a rank of Pioneer! This was way more than I was expecting (a big thank you to Commander 777Driver for pointing me in the direction of a huge neutron field on the way home).

I would imagine that I could have earned much much more or way less credits, and that got me wondering how other players fared on their core trip.....

If you're happy to share, I'd love to know....

How did you do ?

We'll see if third time's the charm.

Round 1 - On the way to Sag A*, got 3Kylies from the Great Annihilator and found a beautiful Earthlike. Took some pictures, and logged off for the night. Logged back in, and apparently spawned in said Earthlike (four weeks gone - start back at Lugh)

Round 2 - Immediately head from Lugh to Sag A*. Made it to GREAE PHIO and EESHORKS nebulas and then face-planted (twice!) into a some rings (trying to get that perfect shot of a weirdly-colored gas giant), a couple of TV distractions, another few face-plants of neutrons and stars. Decided to head back, as I had already lost four weeks of cartography and credits in the previous attempt. NOTE: Since all that happened in a span of a couple of hours, I havent had one mishap in the two weeks heading back - go figure!

I'll probably make Round 3 Buckyball style. There's a few things I'd like to try out and play around with, once I can get back to a hanger to refit my ship. Now, if I can get home. 2k away, and it's like the last hundred miles of a road trip, before you get home - TAKING FOREVER. I should hurry up and just jump quickly, but every system slows me down. Too many shinies! Fly Safe, CMDRs!

I took off on April 30th to see how the Clipper fared with no destination in mind. Two weeks later I realized that I was halfway to Sagittarius A* and figured I'd go for it and sign the visitor list.

Should be getting back in a few days. This was a very meandering / wandering / not straight at all kind of a trip (I spent a few days hunting giant stars before I hit the core, for example). I passed through the "west" neutron field on the way there and the "east" on the way back. I didn't actively farm though, if they were on my route then great! I'll have my results soon!

I made that choice at 500Ly. 65k Ly later, I'm 57k Ly from Sol.

Z...

A reason to explore. A totally bonkers RP reason, but I dont enjoy just wandering for the sake of it, I always come up with an objective, real or imaginary.

Ah - I see.

About a month and a half there and back, about 2 hours selling pages of exploration data for 35 million or so......I've had a shower and celebratory drink, currently sat in the cockpit of my Cobra but yet to launch. The Asp has had her niggles sorted out by the techs so maybe I'll just take a jaunt somewhere away from all the 'noise'.
