Coriolis.io - A new ship builder and comparison tool

Just released 1.0.2 which addresses you issue I hope!

Noticed that the order of the different headers has been changed - I have to say, I really dislike the new order and would greatly prefer the more visually intuitive system that it had previously. It just flows better and, for me at least, makes more logical sense to have the core ship modules placed first and consistently, then the additions and extra modules on the right as eyes naturally scan to. Options to change this display back would be double plus good.

A second issue I've had is it no longer showing the basic purchasing price. It displays the retrofitting price which is situationally very useful, but when planning a new build the option to display core price and outfittings is nearly essential. Please let us choose between the original system and retrofitting, with possibly an option for adding in the base price on top of retrofitting tools.

Other than these, this is a great tool that I've previously got a huge amount of use from. Thank you for your dedication and ability in producing such a clean, usable tool!

The basic purchase price is still there, just click on the COST tab, near RETROFIT COSTS tab. In the next release the site will remember your choice.

Was using ed shipyard, than switched to coriolis, but constant UI updates, switching UI elements back and forth, up and down, modules being on the left side, now on the right side, useless retrofit costs, etc.. Can someone please make up his mind?

The site was still in beta two days ago, that means it is evolving, based on user comments and requests. So, something not useful for you IS useful for other people who asked for that particular feature you dont like. Think it as a public beta to improve UI and correct issues, EXACTLY like ED ;)
It is becoming better every day and all the changes are done according to user requests, suggestions and bug reports.
So, please, make up your mind, as it is completely free, and built with love and passion ;)

Well than, my request is: find an UI layout that suits most users and stop changing it every two days.

And my request is: please calm down and take it easy Sir.
The new UI layout order reflects ED outfitting order (hardpoints, utilities, standard and internal compartments) , so I suppose it will not change again anymore.
Colin McLeod, the developer, is making an awesome design work that FD designers should take as an example, in my humble opinion.

That said, you can always switch back to EDShipyard, that has served us well (personally I've donated to both platforms).

Ah, and, smile. :)

UI looks very good, well done and I congratulate you on a great job!

And the order looks okay to me - its logical, hardpoints, utilities, standard, internals..

I had missed the COST tab, thank you! However, the retrofit option alongside (on one screen) the base ship price would still be excellent.

For what it's worth, it doesn't reflect any individual screen in Elite. It's likely displayed within Elite in an order determined to offer easier access to the more commonly changed outfittings. However they're not displayed on one screen but under separate menus. Within Coriolis, the overall benefit to aesthetics (and usability given that it has been changed from a layout that I expect a few people have gotten used to, me included) outweigh any notion of accuracy against the Elite client itself. At least in my opinion. I very much hope that it will change again, right back to how it was just a few days ago, or to a system that allows individual panes to be shuffled 'on demand' by the end user.

You are a designer, aren't you? :D
The shuffling thing would be awesome, but I think it's not that easy to implement BTW...
Right now it indeed reflects ED Outfitting order, just in a one page layout. And, yes, I got used to the "old" layout too, as I'm using Coriolis a lot. But I understand the change.

I'm smiling reading your overly optimistic posts, good enough? :p

Sure! I'm a positive person, only looking at the bright side, that's why in ED I play the mad psychopath killer role! Balance :D

I agree. The new layout is a better reflection of what commanders experience in-game and that makes for a proper bridge between game and Coriolis. Coherence is important and cmmcleod deserves all the praise for the efforts and dedication in improving Coriolis that's definitely the major reference/resource in outfitting for Elite Dangerous commanders.

It improved but didn't fix it. I'm sad to inform that the bug persists. The lower scroll bar disappeared but the interface is still cut on the right.

How are people even too lazy to do the maths themselves but not too lazy to complain about stuff that works.

'Doing the maths' on five dozen ships and layouts versus thirty seconds to compose and type up a small suggestion to further improve a tool we already like? Do the maths. :)

Hello Colin, coriolis is becoming better and better: I pass more time on it than playing :D
BTW I've noticed a new behaviour after the last update: on mobile (iPhone) you cannot "throw to scroll fast" anymore like before. I mean, now you can just drag the site to scroll it. Is it an intended behaviour?
Thanks, and keep on with the awesome work!

Nope, this is a regression. I will fix!

Sigh...

This was an experiment. I prefer the original order, several vocal users suggested/preferred something closer to in-game order, so I obliged.

If I am going to change the order, I will only do it once more to revert to the original order.

So...

Standard -> Internal -> Hardpoints -> Utility Mount

OR

Hardpoints -> Utility Mount -> Standard -> Internal

Speak now or forever hold your peace.

I agree the way it was before looks better, but it makes sense to have items organized in the same order they appear in game.

Here is one suggestion on how you could make it look cleaner while maintaining the same order...
