Couldn't comprehend what I was seeing

Nice.

I'm exploring my way around populated space in my Cobra for the moment, saving up for an Advanced Scanner before venturing further out. There is something quite mellowing about exploring.

Can you use the heat sinks in supercruise? When I tried, it didn't seem to work (with a control directly bound to using one). I too had the thought that I could use them as protection against the "drop out into a binary star" situations.

Great story there, that's what it's all about bringing back unique experiences. I recently took my second long journey exploring out around the Crab Nebula but I had to cut my return journey short after getting too close to a few too many Neutron Stars, a cracked canopy is not what you need when you're over 4,000Ly from civilisation :)

Good luck with your next journey.

No you can't as far as I'm aware. What do you mean by "drop out into a binary star" situations? The only use heat sinks would be really, would be if you get too close to a star and then are trying to get back into SC but the star is too large/hot, drop a heatsink and you should make it out without cooking your ship

Excellent post and wonderful trip CMDR!! Such a nice discovery!!

Welcome back to civilization and to exploring!! It is truly awesome!!

My exploration career started out in a funny old way. Used to be a scallywag. Was happily chasing a customer for his shineys and jumped into a pretty binary system.

Then I kept going (forgot all about the shineys in said customers cargo hold).

When I got back from that little adventure I thought this daft exploring thing was out of my system.

Nope.

I am off again.

Yes I do trading from time to time, but adventure and exploring calls me back like a siren song. So again I am out on the rim feeding my need to boldly go.

Even found a gas giant with signs of live yesterday. Will be interested to see how well that pay's.

It's always a nice surprise to find a sign of life on the gas giants. There's life out there!

That made me smile. The little surprises in the vastness of space make this game so awe inspiring sometimes. Well done, and enjoy your next trip.

Thank you. You're exactly right!

Nice find! Congratulations on your journey Commander.

Thank you, it was a great way to finish!

Nice find! Congratulations on your journey Commander.

Thanks :)

Great read! I've been tempted to try exploring out into the great unknown, but my bounty hunter wage slows down all my plans.

I strongly suggest you give it a try. You don't need an Asp - many explorers use Cobras. Check Cmdr Nutters guide to exploring.

I've done all of my exploring in a Cobra, and I understand that even a Hauler with an A rated FSD and a fuel scoop can do an excellent job.

Loved reading that - it's given me a new desire to power through the drudgery of trading to get myself an Asp and leave a mark on the galaxy! +1 :)

Great summary commander! +1

You described the emotions many explorers go through! - Well done on a safe return!

Nutter

Thanks very much! And thank you for the Explorer's Guide - it was a big help, particularly for outfitting :D

Good find! +1 rep. :)

Very nice post.

I've had a run out into the black, but only around 2,000 Light years.

Hats off to you sir!

Great job Cmdr. Nice to see someone enjoying the game on their own terms

Thank you, Commanders!

Well written! +1
Thanks! Took a while ;)

It's moments like this that make this game special. Let's hope FD have put in a few more "surprises" for us to discover.

Yes indeed! I'll be off exploring to look for more wonders.

Nothing like the warm lights of home after a long trek through the cold and dark.

Good luck out there CMDR, we'll keep the lights burning for you. Bring back more stories of the deep black, we look forward to them

Thanks Commander, it was a relief to be back. I'll be sure to send postcards next time.

Great read another +1
Cheers :)

Agreed. It also allows me to read up on the Forums, and play suitable music sitting in the dark while the wife and baby sleep.

I can hardly wait to point my nose towards home. Probably several weeks away yet. Grats cmdr. Great read.

Well done, commander! You have inspired me to start my own voyage into deep space.

To a returning Commander, and one about to set off into the black - Fly Safe!
