CQC CQC IS AWSOME - CQC KING OF THE HILL

There is no question about it. Cqc is a great game mode but its held back by the fact that you cant queue from the main game. For the life of me i dint understand why the devs are not fixing this. This is the first step in making CQC popular and viable. But i am not here to talk about that. I am here to talk about "CQC King of the hill" mode. Most of us are familiar with PUBG and the way that it transformed first person shooters. Most CQC matches devolve into a bloodbath where everybody is shooting at everybody. But there is another way. A king of the hill map. A massive asteroid field where 30 - 50 players are droped in with nothing to their name. No weapons, no shields, no enhanced thrusters, maybe not even a power distributor. All of these can be placed in the world. Same concept like PUBG...the map gets smaller and smaller. I am to lazy to type and explain how great of a gameplay this can create, how thrilling amd engaging this could be. You can imagine that yourself. I already tested this by trying to not die ever in deathmatch. Its amazing but hard to do as the other players come at you blindly because they can respawn in seconds. Suddenly flight skill matters, evasive maneuvers matter, every mive you make matter. Imagine racing to the circle with the wall of death behind you and you pick up a tale. Another cmdr comes out from behind an asteroid guns blazing. Only one can come out alive. The gameplay posibilities are endless. Before you start bashing me really think about it and imagine

*crying internally* OH PLEASE god no, turning ed into a pubg clone is not a GOOD THING

I'm not going to bash you. At least you're thinking of possibilities. Though, for me, the only thing CQC needs is... well, players.

You talk about how "Most CQC matches devolve into a bloodbath", which is a bit of a revelation for me, if I'm honest, because in my experience most of my (admittedly fairly infrequent) CQC sessions consist of me sitting waiting for other people to show up, then getting bored and going back to normal play. I do vaguely remember playing it a long while ago, but I honestly didn't know it was still used.

As for PUBG, I never got into it, to be honest -- it's really not my thing -- but people do talk about this shrinking play area as a great innovation. It always makes me think of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which used the same system.

I don't know. It might work. But I personally think ED is too arcadey as it is, and I don't think I'd find what's essentially an Arcade-Max mode that interesting. That's just me, though. I know there are a lot of people who love them the pew-pew, so you may well get some takers.

I already tested this by trying to not die ever in deathmatch.
Not dying is relatively easy - plenty of hiding spots on most maps where no-one will come looking and you can recharge shields. Not dying while still scoring enough points to win is a lot tougher, especially if there's anyone reasonably competent in the match.

A massive asteroid field where 30 - 50 players are droped in with nothing to their name.
While CQC has been getting more popular over the last year, about the only time you get 30 players on at the same time is during one of Ed's CQC livestreams. It's tough enough getting 8 players together for TDM outside peak hours. (At peak hours we have the opposite problem that we can get 10 players together for TDM and two of them can then only wait for a space...)

30 players in an instance also is pushing the limits of the networking unless everyone has good computers and solid connections - I've been at 30 player instances where people were mostly just hanging around in space and it was a bit laggy at times ... actual combat could be a complete mess.

You'd also have the issue that the matches would go on a reasonably long time, but most people would get killed off pretty quickly, so they'd be hanging around waiting for the match to finish if they wanted to play a second one. I suspect most matches would only end - if you do get 30 players together, at least a few of them will be very good - when one of the final two players can't make an evasive move they need because the arena is now only 500m across...

I would like to see extra modes in CQC ... but at the moment adding any more will just make it harder to get a match started in any of them. They'd need to add much more transparent queueing and matchmaking first.

CQC is fun when there are people and it works.

Like above, queuing, matchmaking needs fixing. And devs should add some chat in the lobby so we could communicate with other people queuing.

I'd actually rather have a Halo or TF2-style "King of the Hill" mode: there's a specific area you need to be inside and keep free of enemies, and when you do a timer counts down for your team. First to get the timer to zero wins. You could have the area move around every 60 seconds or so as well, to keep things fresh.

This, unfortunately, has the same problem as *any* new game mode in CQC: the playerbase is too small to further fragment across game modes. We can't even fill the ones we have, so adding more is doomed to failure.

I love CQC dispite my incompetence, there’s usually a game within five minutes between 1800 & 2100 gmt...cant see them adding a new mode or spending time redesigning when there’s so much else for the devs to work on. Adding a waiting list to the main menu is raised quite often and a good idea, no idea how difficult that would be. I tend to use CQC as training for being better in the rest of the game, I have improved...a bit!...
it’s also often hilarious...try doing it in FA off if you’re not familiar with it.

CQC need to be in the main game as a sporting event, could even expand to a racing mode too, having it as a separate game is fine for training, but to make it populat they need it in the game.

CQC does seem to be popular compared to this time last year. I always get a match in the uk evenings. CQC is the perfect gamr to break up a 3KLY tourist mission. Now I just have to get better at it.

I'd love to see CQC matchmaking get fixed, last time I waited 5 mins without luck and gave up.

Then I'd like to see more motivation to play, perhaps rewarding in money and materials. Perhaps some system of sponsorship by in lore companies, consistent wins would get you a better sponsorship etc. Either way giving a way for rewards to feed back in to the main game is an important step to make people want to participate.

I'd love to see more variety in game modes, perhaps not a pubg esq one as I don't think that really fits but king of the hill would be cool. Swarm modes pitting you against waves of enemies. A team based game where each side has a capital ship, first team to destroy the enemy cap ship wins. I think we offers a lot of potential for exciting PvP game modes if they invested some time and love, many of which would add a great deal of mileage to the game.

I think that frontier should thank the people that put the CQC discord together. It's a godsent for game matches.

As far as the OP is concerned. A quick 32 Player 'Highlander' Mode would be an excellent addition. One to add to the list of ;-
  1. Lobby Chat
  2. Ai Ships to make up numbers (but don't count towards you rating or credits)
  3. Spectator Mode
  4. Someway to CQC from the main game
  5. Cross-platform matches (*Now that is a big ask!!)

if it ever gets a second pass.

I hope it gets a second pass for all of the above too.

Requested before but you never know; I'd love to see a PvP score ladder, that allows a small handful of players to win literally squillions of in game credits through CQC. (Would have to compare scores rather than just be a PvE progress ladder like now). Interview them, and put it in my Galnet audio feed; intersteller sport stars (and galactic lottery winners) would be ace imo.

How about having a at h where you’re pretending to be a ship launched fighter squad and try to defend your ship (which has some turrets) from the enemy while trying to destroy the other team’s? Would be thematic ^-^

I have been away from ED for far too long, other priorities etc, and was hoping that CQC would help me get my edge back when it came to flying/fighting etc. Sadly I seem to choose times when either nobody else is live or the matchmaking fails.

I can only waste so much of my time watching a screen doing nothing. [ugh]

Unfortunately it is unlikely getting games without coordination with other players (unless you play during europe prime time). A good tip is to seek out the CQC discord channel for games.

See, all CQC really needs is AI to fill in the gaps (or even a dedicated skirmish mode), if only so where there are issues with matchmaking or a lack of players you still get a match.
