I was eagerly awaiting this stress test to try out the Federal Assault ship, spent the last week in my python grinding missions to rank up in the federation to Chief Petty Officer, got myself in a good high tech system all ready to download the stress test. Just started up the game and it's put me in a position from about a month ago, out in the American nebula in my Asp! gah! :)

Got a dm game straight away but players left. No luck finding another, so tried ctf and found a 4v3 but sides very lopsided in terms of ranking. Good fun though. Some God awful noise, sounds like someone is vaccing! Possibly an open mic?

Well Sirocco ... there always a reset cmdr and get started from scratch at LHS 3447 .... it's get you back into things for the Beta.
But It does sound more like a build issue, have you tried the reinstall route?
I've got galaxy map showing without any issues. (other that some cosmetic changes I'm not so keen on  )

Maybe I did not make myself clear: I actually AM at Dalton Gateway in the beta. I just cannot see any stars on the galaxy map. Tried validating game files and so on... still nothing. But if this error carries over into the release build, I will be in deep trouble, as my CMDR is currently near the edge of the galaxy, exploring. Without any stars to be seen on the map, I will be stuck in the void with weeks of exploration data, unable to plot a route back to human space.

Oh right, sorry I slightly misunderstood.
Still I think it's an odd problem. Just checked galaxy map again, all seems fine.
Gues it's one for FD support team

Maybe you tried this, but beta change settings sometimes... Maybe it's just filter on map?

I can't see any starts, when I have unchecked Economy boxes, or population min set to high...

The "Open Beta" is titled as "CQC Stress Test" on the launcher... I wonder if they have deliberately done something to corral CMDR towards CQC rather than the rest of 1.4?

I tried all filters, everything. The problem persists. No stars in realistic view, no stars in star class view, even with "sort by population size" deactivated. No stars in economy view, none in allegiance view... nothing.

Watching the waiting thing is terribly boring. :( I've gotten one actual decent game so far out of 8 attempts - a capture the flag 3 vs 4.

I would also like to add that we REALLY* need the option of private matches - I want to play with friends and not have the match interrupted by random internet unsavoury types.

*I obviously meant 'I' REALLY...

Quick question - are you able to switch between 1.4 beta and 1.3 from the launcher or something once you've downloaded it, or are you stuck in the beta?

Capture the flag seems to matchmake the best. I have yet to get into a deathmatch game. Team deathmatch seems to happen but then is always one sided - ie 3 vs 1 when 4 were waiting.

Some stuff definitely wrong atm but can't think what else to say that's helpful. Anyone else getting a similar experience?

Interesting because I had the opposite.....I could get into a few deathmatch games but not the others and they were fairly evenly matched, although one game had a level 20 player when everyone else was between 1 and 8, but then again that was Beta 4, the release just before Stress Test 1.

I managed 1 DM earlier, me L8 pitted with two L3s... It was close though as I am a rubbish pilot and I think they may have both decided attacking me made more sense.

After that I upgraded my Eagle and then got the spinning waiting doom until I got bored :/

you can switch and play 1.3 or 1.4 versions from the launcher.
There is a list on the launcher display, you can click in it and scroll up and down. (the training scenario is also a listed option)
You can only play one or other at a time.

My feeling after 6 or 7 matches (death match mode)

cons:
1)first minutes of play are a bit difficult: I was lost due to aiming changes.
All weapons look gimballed and since I was not able to select a target, aiming was a bit hard!
I don't understand why we cannot select opponent with next/previous ennemy, as usual.
3) I also don't understand why the game cannot start in death match when we are 2 people?
Why it cannot start team match when we are 4?
Perhaps the system detects that it is not a fair game? I prefer somethign unfair than just waiting during minutes for nothing.
4) Waiting and waiting... That's the most critical part of CQC.
When we are 2, ok for waiting 20s
When we are 4, ok for waiting 10s
But 70s? really?
A such arcade mode gives adrenalin and waiting 1 or 2 minutes is just breaking this fantastic mood!
If we are 4, then we are 4 and that's all.
Other players should come as ghost, it would allow them to test the map instead of having a waiting screen...
Those players would be directly included in the next match, and this will be smooth without waiting timmmmmmmmes.

good:
1) Very good feeling when you start to understand the game
2) Really appreciate ship behaviors for this arcade aspect of ED
3) Map are originals, and there is always something around for hiding
4) sounds, specially when brushing against stations are beautiful, nice job!

In conclusion, please change the match making stuff, it is terrible for this game mode!

Actually you can, it's a tactic I use often as my download speed isn't the best. You'll likely save a couple of gigabytes of downloading by copying your FORC-FDEV-D-10XX folder and naming the copy PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER before starting your download.

Also once the update goes to the live server swapping out the folders will require a tiny incremental update for the live build.

Just finished the download, went a lot quicker than it should have given my internet speed, so it seems this does indeed work. Thanks for posting it. About to jump into CQC and check stuff out :D
