Patch Notes Update CQC Update 1.4

The CQC combat is pretty fun to me. I was only in there for two rounds, but got a couple of kills and leveled up. Didn't realize that I'd be automatically thrown into a new fight if I didn't log out of it though. I was getting a burrito out of the microwave when I heard the computer sounding off the last few seconds of the timer. Live and learn, huh? :)

The interdiction stuff could be better. I just submit right away and if the interdictor shows red, I kill it. Otherwise, I just jump back out. It slows me down a tad so I can't get to my destination on schedule. That part sucks. It's definitely not as fun as it was before the update.

I can't even scan the previously explored stars and planets that I scanned before. The planets that I'm visiting don't show up on the map and don't give me a target to rescan. Hopefully, this will be fixed with the server upgrade thingy. Not a game breaker, but annoying nevertheless.

I did two charity missions and it seemed to degrade my rep in the system. Kinda strange, that. There haven't been any charity missions available since last night, so I don't know if it's still happening. (GMT-5). Not a game breaker either, but it takes some of the polish off.

Overall, the CQC makes up for it all. I'll be back in there going pew-pew in a few hours. :)

<edit> I really like the new Hazerdous RES. Big ships to go against and no cops to help you. I'm no longer going out and simply collecting my mil before heading home. Nicely done. :) </edit>

You would expect that they would be collecting statistics about the number of attempted and successful PC and NPC-initiated interdictions, and the outcome of any resulting confrontation, and tweak the interdiction "time-on-vector" and other variables as a result of that.

So, couple issues.

Repair integrity caused my paintwork to be repaired. So all that hardwork in degrading it is gone
The 10cr repair thing never goes away

Exiting galnet news using the back button causes the galnet intro to replay

Boost sound from the T9 is gone. You hear the rev up but then it's silent. Audio does seem to get a corrupted crackle noise intermittently during the time the normal engine boost sound would play.

Thrusters when you are undocking do not eventually engage if you started using them prior "engine release"

That's just what I noticed in the short time i played 1.4. Some of those issues (10cr) were known during the beta so I dont know why they have persisted into the release.

I thought I was going mad- hopefully 1.4.1 will sort these out.

For some people (me included) it is a major immersion breaker. Funny, but it bothering me more than exploration data problem (I was lucky because I returned to inhabited space and sold data just a few hours before update) or interdiction changes.
And I am not talking about CQC mini-game itself (which is fun thing in my opinion) but actually a reference to it in status screen of main game.

Honestly, the greatest causes of my intense hatred for CQC rating in the UI are twofold:
1). The facy that its placement in the UI makes it equivalent to the other PF ratings, despite it being utterly meaningless in and irrelevant to the galaxy at large.

2). I am rather offended at being labeled "helpless" because I dislike mindless deathmatch games. I have a combat rating-a rating earned in combat that has an actual meaning in the context of the universe-which amply demonstrates that I am far from helpless!

This is like having your ability to play Pole Position stamped on your driver's license

- Changed how powerplant damage is handled - small chance of instant destruction, otherwise malfunctions and halved power output

I think this is a real misstake ....

A power plant get destroyed ... it boom end

I honestly think this is an over-reaction.

For one thing, even though the combat is simplified in CQC with power ups and bumper car shields, you are at the end of the day acquiring all your kills against other players playing by the same rules. Player kills are always more satisfying and deserved than NPC kills (how many of us rack up millions in CZs without feeling like they're in much danger?).

The other perspective problem is seeing it as a game, when sport is a better term. It's a sport in the ED universe, and as such is not meaningless.

BUT

I also agree that it shouldn't be ranked with Combat, Trading, and Exploration. There are plenty of reasons for this -

-CQC is a sport, and not "real life". It is a subset of Combat, even though the rankings aren't directly linked (see below).
-Other careers could stand to have a bit of attention, such as Mining, or Smuggling, which are subsets of Trading. Now, granted the income made with these feeds directly into the Trading rank (unlike CQC and Combat), but I'd put their value as on par with CQC.
-strictly aesthetically speaking, the ranks look crowded, and 3 is traditionally a magic number. It's got elegance.

So I've always felt as a result that there should be a second "page" of Elite stats: Combat, Trading and Exploration on the front, and tick over and you see CQC, Smuggling, and Mining.

I see it as opening up in game possibilities.

First off if the power plant gets destroyed, consider yourself as running on emergency batteries (which is why you have half power).

Right now once shields are down many people flee from PvP, largely because they know the enemy will target their Power Plant next and depending on their weapon setup and your ship, they might take it out very quickly. Better to run. This should encourage people to stay in the fight even if their shields go down.

Second, if your power plant goes and you're in this position in PvP, your opponent might give you a chance to yield (if, say you were fighting a pirate and all he wants is your cargo). Alternatively you could try and escape, which you can still do at half power (depending on how your using your power).

The interdiction rate is a nightmare. I am crap at combat and trying to earn the money for a decent ship I can improve in, getting interdicted and killed on every other run is massively annoying.
Put yourselves in the shoes of a new player, this is going to put them right off.

I just spent an hour at my first Hazardous Extractions site in Noti, I racked up about 1 mil worth of bounties from hunting pirates and then went to Weber station to turn it in and every single bounty I had was wiped. My wing man went in a few minutes later and noticed the exact same happened to him. Anyone else experience anything like this?

yea. you're not the only one. i agree that the previously interdiction system was way too easy but now it's ridiculously unfair and it feels broken sometimes. that's my opinion at least

Can not get into the game and support does not work neither, can somebody tell me what is the problem this time? Just want to play the game I paid for and even already paid for Horizons, but can not play for two days already this is crazy.

Right now I believe the servers might have just gone down for a little bit so they can fix a few of the problems they were having. I played for a little while earlier and there were some issues with the way the ai flew (crashing into asteroids and just boosting into them, some of the new ships were just firing on their wing mates and stuff..and this interdiction issue people are talking about.) So maybe it's just that. :) I hope it's nothing serious and the game comes back up soon!

Issue fixed :) Great work Frontier! Love the new combat/ships.

I wish they would at least let us know.

I've just completed a Kill Pirates mission, returned to base, and whenever I try to Finish the mission, the game kicks me out - Cannot connect to the authentication server?

That's an improvement. I now get "FAILED TO COMMUNICATE WITH SERVER Failed to perform mission transaction" in-game message rather than kicking me out when I try to Finish the mission.
