I honestly think this is an over-reaction.
For one thing, even though the combat is simplified in CQC with power ups and bumper car shields, you are at the end of the day acquiring all your kills against other players playing by the same rules. Player kills are always more satisfying and deserved than NPC kills (how many of us rack up millions in CZs without feeling like they're in much danger?).
The other perspective problem is seeing it as a game, when sport is a better term. It's a sport in the ED universe, and as such is not meaningless.
BUT
I also agree that it shouldn't be ranked with Combat, Trading, and Exploration. There are plenty of reasons for this -
-CQC is a sport, and not "real life". It is a subset of Combat, even though the rankings aren't directly linked (see below).
-Other careers could stand to have a bit of attention, such as Mining, or Smuggling, which are subsets of Trading. Now, granted the income made with these feeds directly into the Trading rank (unlike CQC and Combat), but I'd put their value as on par with CQC.
-strictly aesthetically speaking, the ranks look crowded, and 3 is traditionally a magic number. It's got elegance.
So I've always felt as a result that there should be a second "page" of Elite stats: Combat, Trading and Exploration on the front, and tick over and you see CQC, Smuggling, and Mining.
Honestly, the greatest causes of my intense hatred for CQC rating in the UI are twofold:
1). The facy that its placement in the UI makes it equivalent to the other PF ratings, despite it being utterly meaningless in and irrelevant to the galaxy at large.
2). I am rather offended at being labeled "helpless" because I dislike mindless deathmatch games. I have a combat rating-a rating earned in combat that has an actual meaning in the context of the universe-which amply demonstrates that I am far from helpless!
This is like having your ability to play Pole Position stamped on your driver's license
For some people (me included) it is a major immersion breaker. Funny, but it bothering me more than exploration data problem (I was lucky because I returned to inhabited space and sold data just a few hours before update) or interdiction changes.
And I am not talking about CQC mini-game itself (which is fun thing in my opinion) but actually a reference to it in status screen of main game.
I'm sorry, but I fail to see how anything I said could be considered an overreaction.
I called CQC a "mindless deathmatch game", and it is exactly that. It is combat without context, without significance, without risk, without meaning. It's combat for sport, rather than for principle or ideology.
It is EMPTY.
So why is it being treated as equivalent to combat in context, with meaning, with risk, and for purpose?
It devalues everything we do in the shared universe.
By that logic, so is every sport. Mixed martial arts, baseball, marathons, whatever. Yet the champs in those areas get recognition in the real world.
While it's not set up in game as such (yet), I'm sure in the lore you've got all kinds of 4 man teams fighting together for a particular planet, having rival planets they routinely square off against, leaderboard ladders to climb and all the stuff that makes sports popular (and big business).
Well, if it was being treated as equivalent then your CQC rank would influence your Combat rank. It doesn't. It's also at the bottom of the list, if that helps.
It's the difference between someone doing Parkour over the rooftops of Paris and watching that American Ninja show with the elaborate and impractical obstacles. Both are exciting and impressive to watch, but trying to put those bizarre contraptions in the real world would completely spoil the thrill of watching someone do something real. I get you - the "game" belittles the reality when viewed that way. But that's not to say the people competing in American Ninja aren't impressive athletes or that the obstacle courses aren't exciting to watch.
Bear in mind I don't think it should be ranked alongside the big three either, but saying it's empty and meaningless is just wrong. You don't think sports heroes get attention in the real world for their accomplishments?
What's going on here?
Are the missions in this game actually tenable?
My 100K bounty just disappeared into the aether. No money no stats.
My Kill Pirate mission has also just 'disapperead' too! It would not let me Finish it... now it is not there at all. So did I complete it or not?
I guess it just sucks if you're a newbie and just started in the last 48hrs... I've had a great week's gameplay, where all I was doing was grinding a trader back and forth. Then I decided to start taking missions... and in the middle of that they did 1.4 and things have been utter e since.
Can someone give me an honest overview of what i can expect long term from this game?
If the game isn't stable enough to let me complete missions then what am I here for?
Really frustrating. Pretty new and this doesn't look good.
Grrrrrrr. Arrrrrrggggggg!!!
It has been an update and with these things there are teething troubles. Bear with it
I had scan data lost for a system. Fortunately not a lot. You can raise a support ticket if it lost you a lot , but I think somewhere in the mix you may have lost half a day's worth of standing.
What do other people think?![]()
Does this seem like it failed or even backfired to anybody else? Pre-patch I was interdicting NPC's with about a 90% success rate. Post-patch I'm down to about a 5% success rate. On NPC's. Am I the only one?- Decreased the time the highest end AIs spend "on" the interdiction vector to make them a little easier
- Make interdiction a bit fairer, it isn't so weighted in favour of the person being interdicted
I am sorry for my poor English.
I was interested in reasons for recent “interdiction bugs” and tried to find what causing it. With interdiction happening once every 5-10 minutes, it was easy to do some testing and collect statistics.
Please note that everything in the text below is my own conclusions made from personal observation of current game mechanics. I do not know how exactly it implemented in game code.
What I found out was quite surprising. It looks like interdiction itself is not “broken” and works as intended. And problems like instant interdiction, red bar raising while focusing on escape vector, failed evasion attempts with full blue bar and such have a different reason. Namely – possibility of multiple interdictions on single target combined with extremely high interdiction attempt chance.
You fly, someone try to interdict you, you see escape vector marker and try to focus on it. Then someone else tries to interdict you as well.
This can lead to following results:
a) you follow one vector unaware of second interdiction, red bar builds up despite your focus on vector;
b) second escape vector positioned near first, you see position of escape vector rapidly switched between different positions (game shows you vector closest to center of the screen);
c) instant interdiction, just a number of escape vectors in different positions build up red bar so fast that you drop from SC almost instantly.
Possibly, there are other effects as well.
I am new to the game and never seen multiple interdiction on one target before. Maybe it was possible, maybe not. But with extremely increased chance of interdiction attempts from NPCs there is a high probability of more than one NPC trying to interdict you at any given time. And I think this is what leads to aforementioned problems.
Never play on patch day, in case of Elite expand this to the two days after a patch.
To all the new players- Elite is basically very stable! It's patched every two months with a BIG update and new content- free of charge. Right after such an update it's a bit... bumpy, evidently. But Frontier works really hard to deliver new content and to fix those bugs and they do so usually within 48hrs and after that you have ~2 months of stable and reliable gameplay, so on their behalf, may I ask to be a bit patient and help them fix those bugs by using the support system?
This time they informed everyone beforehand that this update would be BIG and asked everyone to stress- test this on the opened beta- server. I seriously doubt that everyone helped with the stress test- it's far more cosy on the live server earning credits and doing things, why go on a bumpy ride on the beta- server with bugs, game crashes and the trouble to report those? Maybe to prevent this to happen on patch day- but that's just my humble opinion.
What actually annoyes me is the lack of clear communication. It takes about 1 Minute for a Community Manager to write something like "We're aware of several problems and working hard to fix those, we expect the next hot- patch tomorrow. We're sorry for the inconvenience." Everyone with in- game problems looking in the forum would see such a thread, wouldn't have to open a new one but would be informed.
Ok, it seems only myself and one other user (so far) has noticed, and taken offence to one of the new SFX. Generally, the sound is much improved, as is the overall performance of the game...but this sound, this overpowering little sound is absolutely doing my sweed in. I dont know what it's signifying, it happens radomnly it seems, sometimes happening every 2-3 seconds. Ive captured it in the below vid @45 seconds, and throughout the video....please, can anyone find in the changelog(I cant) what this new SFX is???? That way, at least I could pettion ED for it to be changed. Cheers commanders.
