Newcomer / Intro Credit, anything else you can do with them?

It's kinda piling up over here and I don't know what to do with it, other than:

  • buy ships
  • buy modules
  • buy ammunition, limpets, fuel
  • do repairs
  • do donation missions
  • throw into a bottomless pit, aka a fleet carrier

That's seems like a lot of options, but:

- I did try some ships, but I only really have time to fly one
- I have all the modules I need
- I don't use ammunition or limpets. Fuel I scoop.
- repairs are cheap and I don't need to do them very often
- I don't come across donation missions a lot and they're usually peanuts
- I don't really see the point of maintaining a carrier, not with what little time I have to play

Have I missed anything else I can do with credits?

I see. I guess everyone dumping their excess credits into something substantially gameplay affecting would break the economy even further. That kinda makes me wish there was something like the fleet carrier, but just less of a responsibility overall. People that can't play enough to afford to maintain one still are dealing with the same excess of money.

When you say "excess", how much are you talking about?

You could buy some big, expensive ships and fit them out with the best modules. A top-of-the-heap Cutter could set you back over 1bn, and, iirc, so could a monster 'Vette or 'Conda. That's 3bn spent :D

Like, how many cats do I realistically need. 😂

One ship is fine for me. I almost liked the Anaconda if it wasn't for that abysmal view, but I've settled on my Phantom. It's not even an issue of money, I just don't have the hours in the day to use another ship, let alone two others.

Get lots of credits and don't spend them so that when someone clicks on your Inara page you don't look like a noob

Well, Fleet Carriers arrived costing 5 billion just to take it out of the dealer system. I couldn't find the salesman to
negotiate the price or at least get a corrosion resistant coating option from the factory! Meanwhile I saved up a lot
knowing sooner or later in ED I would need it.

When Odyssey arrives what 'MacGuffin' costing billions will show up? Maybe a Long Range Cruiser that can haul
100,000 tons? Better start saving credits just in case.

MacGuffin ...Made popular by director Alfred Hitchcock. Central to a movie plot that all the characters are trying to
obtain. The most famous was probably The Maltese Falcon (c1941) directed by John Houston. It seems to fit with
every ED update including 'Oops" with LTDs and Tritium recently.
