CV1 Question

I'm wondering if it's just me (only had my Rift for a week or so), but I find objects, e.g.ships, at a distance appear blurry and indistinct.

I've done a fair bit of tweaking per this forum, but can't get that solved. Is this just a limitation of the device, or is there something I can do about it?

It is a limitation of the device. There are tons of information by people who know a lot more about it than I, so hopefully they'll reply to this thread as well.

But in the meantime... Have you remembered to wipe your lenses?

Not a lot you can do about this really, the only thing that will make a difference here is increasing the HMD Image Quality setting, but beware that each step will have a significant increase on the amount of GPU grunt you'll need to keep at or close to 90FPS. Or you could try increasing the Supersampling and see which has the least impact on your GPU (or which you prefer). But don't expect to see a huge difference. For example, I find the stars on the galaxy backdrop are blurry no matter what.

Increase Draw Distance and HMD Quality. Drop SS to 0.65. Turn AA off. Try turning artificial "enhancements" off in general.

Drop SS to 0.65

Although this apparently works well with the Vive the consensus is with the Rift this makes things worse. I went down this route early on when I got my Rift but then realised it was better to leave SS to 1.0 and simply increase HMD Quality (or the debug tool PPD back then) by smaller amounts and adjust AA to personal preference. But nothing to stop the OP from trying it - certainly with the HMD Quality increased dropping the SS will mean the GPU is working less hard.
