I'm sorry to see so many people having dramas, i wanted to add an optimistic note that
I've been on for about 6 hours now with the Rift CV1 and its fantastic. thanks to a few notes on this very forum, i did use ED profiler to change my hud color to VR friendly and the Oculus SDK tool to turn pixel density up, and its very nice.

I like looking down through the glass floor of the AspEx while landing, And even just looking around the cockpit of the Cobra makes you feel like you are in command of a big tank like bruiser. its amazing.

Question - the 'godrays' are a little bit annoying i guess.. has anyone found any tricks to lessen them?


(totally unrelated question, i cant find a quick answer, I want to get missions for some rocks from a pristine metallic ring, what type of system and in what state generally gives missions for this crap with the current patch?? everyone just wants stuff from ice rings [down][down])

God-rays:
- try all UI colour schemes until you find one that minimises the god-rays but makes the text more readable (allowing for changes to the NPC avatars and colours of the contacts on the radar). I like NO20 Turquoise-Deep Sky Blue because the cyan text is sharp and easy on the eyes
- turn down dashboard brightness as low as possible i.e. 0 or 1 (ideal setting depends on the UI scheme)
- same for Gamma
- turn off Bloom (will help with the lights on the landing pads etc.)

The only area where the god-rays bother me now is the dot in the nav compass.

By the way, no need to run the debug tool, just use the in-game HMD Image Quality setting instead (is available in EDProfiler). You can make more granular changes in the debug tool. I think some people have said that the debug tool uses less resources (the opposite of what you might expect), I have not noticed any difference but perhaps it's only noticeable on less powerful systems.

Most people learn to ignore them and they usually become hardly noticed after a while. Kinda like the reduced clarity, your eyes and brain adapt. A good hud color scheme helps. Here's the one I use.

Mine arrives today. To say I'm excited is to understate matters. I spent all weekend doing all my VA commandsand X55 binds so I dont need to use mouse and keyboard. Damned earphones and 3rd sensor arrived last Friday. Touch Controllers arrive tomorrow. Cant OR just put all of em in one box dammit. Hows that for efficiency.

Edit: Its arrived...is it 5:30pm yet.....

its 5:40 ! ull be about to open that box of magic! dont forget to say goodbye to friends & family. And give us some feedback / first impressions always good to read. You only experience VR for the first time once & seeing is believing. Theres no way you can get any feel for VR by watching all the utube videos of people using it.

On another note, had my rift cv1 around 5 mths now and clocked up around 500hrs in ED, even now its still blows your mind. Welcome to the club. As for problems, never had any but then again i did rebuild my system around getting VR so its upto the job.

Ive got it home and plugged and ready. However I notice I have only 1 hdmi on my card. So Ill gave to unplug the monitor to set it up. This is confusing me. Any tips appreciated. :)

There are no magic tips, you will need a dvi-hdmi or displayport cable to connect your monitor. Or else you will be doomed to switch that everytime you want to use the headset.

Ive got some AA issues and pixelisation. I'd guess my card is week and my settings need a tweak but holy schmoly...

Thanks Star I shall read them now.

had to set to HMD headphones. The 3rd party app thing in oculus home wasnt enough.

I expect teething issues. :)

Just a reminder, IDK if you're using oculus home version or somehow running steam from oculus home, but you can request an oculus home key from your fdev account. Now don't get your hopes up, it is not a second account, only a way to run E:D on oculus home. If you bought E:D on oculus home then you don't have to do it. That said however, I am team Vive and don't have much experience with Oculus home besides a quick brush with dk2 back in April 2016.

yeh.. goto your account on frontier store and on left hand side theres something like other keys and in there you can request an oculus store key.. its instant. put that key into your oculus home and there shall ED appear. Means downloading it again but well worth it. less hassle. wouldnt go for steam key. you can still run from the ED launcher too if Oculus ever goes down - happend once in 5mths here.

How massive the dock is. You just don't get that viewing via a monitor. The size of a condas bridge. Jeez. Mind is blown. Everyone should buy VR for ED. !Ay! Caramba! Im not easily impressed, but this knock my socks off.

I ran out of time to start playing the game, so its pretty much ready for me to jump into the void tomorrow and I mean void. The vastness of it all is overwhelming. I wish I could use expletives as they help convey feelings that superlatives just cannot. You need a visceral expletive to properly express how. Wow just Jesus H Corbett wow.

goto a hi res site bounty hunting ;) amazing... fly too close to a sun and literally dodge the sparks. goto a planet surface and deploy in a fighter skimming the surface.. when you dock, do a barrel role ( have bucket ready ) goto one of those small outposts - not so small anymore!
