While we're at the history lesson, I can add a bit more.
The two "CEOs" actually started their carreer and made their first money in eastern bootleg business. Yep. They started their company as professional pirates! (To their defense, at the time they were doing that, most of the games they were distributing on burnt CDs didn't have any official distribution in Poland, Czechoslovakia or Hungary.
Then they one-up themselves and started doing translations to several ex-Eastern block languages. First, again, unofficial, but slowly official as companies noticed them and started hiring them as localized distributors.
After that, well, you've covered that nicely. They started hoarding older games (legally this time) and releasing them DRM free.
Before I was forced to create a Steam account just two years ago (because of VR), most of my library was on GOG. And I definitely purchase all CDPR games through GOG, simply because that way CRPR will get a 100% of my money.
They really are the good guys of the gaming industry. Despite being very demanding when comes to their empoyees, but then again, it's not like they themselves are slacking off.
