The Dagr Crocodiles were originally founded by a number of Alliance veteran operatives, who – becoming disillusioned with Alliance politics and bureaucracy – sought another, simpler, way to uphold the ideals of the Alliance.
The Dagr Crocodiles are Freemen – hardline libertarians despising all forms of centralised government. Accordingly, the territory they control lacks a governmental structure that would rely on a centralised authority – be that social or corporate -based. With this, any standardised legal system is gone too, and whereas the Crocodiles do uphold a certain loosely defined order in their dominions, the tenets of this order boil down to the principle of “don’t be a ”. True libertarians, the Crocodile -controlled territory does not ban any commodity, even those normally prohibited within Alliance space. Even slaves are purchasable at DC ports of call, but the Crocodiles maintain they comprise of POWs, that have been left unclaimed, and criminals – i.e. people who "have been s”.
The Crocodiles have the backing of notable Alliance figures, which ensures that a certain level of oversight within Crocodiles -controlled territory exists which guarantees that freedoms protected by the Alliance charter are maintained to an acceptable level while guaranteeing the Crocodiles’ territory the full rights due to a member of the Alliance. This arrangement has two-way benefits, as it ensures that external Alliance figures and institutions have entry to a market with extremely relaxed regulations and are thus able to gain access to products and services that would normally be restricted in Alliance space, or would be behind a mountain of paperwork.
The organisation of the Dagr Crocodiles themselves is of course structured. However, they function more as overseers and guarantors of freedoms and liberties, rather than a conventional political force. As such, the Crocodiles do not claim any form of political authority and exist mostly to prevent such political overreach from taking place. Any attempt by a third party to gain control over populations under the protection of the Crocodiles is seen as an act of aggression against a member of the Alliance of Independent Systems and will facilitate a response from the Alliance Defence Force.
Due to the Crocodiles' role as enforcers and supervisors of liberty, their organisation is designed around the concept of a military force with all civil administration left to the whims of local populations. The Crocodiles' fleets and soldiers do not get involved in local disputes, nor agree to act as judges or mediators in such disputes, and concern themselves only with preventing third party incursions - alien or human - into their territory.
The original operatives, who founded the Crocodiles, departed some time after the initiation of their social experiment, and this left the Crocodiles’ organisation greatly weakened. However, in early 3305 a handful of former officers of the Terran Colonial Forces Squadron 315, with the backing of other influential Alliance figures, took over the supervision of the Crocodiles’ fleets. They reformed the organisation and are intent on building it back up into what it was originally meant to be.
