Dark side of planets still not dark

I would be happy with a simple on/off toggle like orbit lines have. Call it "Night vision".
- Doesn't ruin anyone's gameplay.
- Offers the same gameplay for everyone.
- Certainly easy to implement.

Then, if needed, implement more realistic night vision later.

Assuming they had any intention at all to change something about the current lack of darkness: Why would they implement a quick and dirty workaround, only to have to remove the workaround later when implementing a "proper" solution. That is, one incorporating absolute darkness into the game's mechanics by means of night vision equipment or similar.

Of all the problems the game has and all the possibilities to expand its functionality down the line, incorporating darkness into the basic game mechanics seems like such a low priority thing to do. Very much not like anything that'd warrant doing work twice like a hasty workaround only to be replaced by a more elaborate solution later. Dev ressources for these types of short term fixed are probably invested better elsewhere.

I too would like to see actual darkness and game mechanics to cope with it. E.g. "night vision" or expanding the current ground holo on the radar to fill the screen, while masking details beyond a certain distance. But a hasty workaround? I'll do just about fine with total lack of actual darkness until a proper mechanic to incorporate darkness.

This needs to be corrected in 2.4 ASAP.

Landed on this neutron lit planet and it looked gorgeous. Had an eerie alien feeling driving around in the SRV prospecting mats to fix my FSD.

Then I had to log for work, and when I logged back the planet had rotated so that I was now at the dark side. What happened? Did it get darker? No. The whole surface was now enormously lit up, with no shadows, and less depth to and details to the terrain. The galaxy backdrop was completely over exposed to. The whole scene looked like mud.

Day time (lit by neutron star) looks great

Night time (lit by ambient light) whaat?

There is an easy fix. Remove the ambient light boost that was implemeted some time after Horizon launch. It was not needed.
