David Braben: There is plenty in there for players of Elite (or Frontier or First Encounters) to get their teeth into. Docking and Fuel Scoops are already in, and are an acquired skill.

Fuel scoops already in! Acquirable skill? What am I missing here?

David Braben: Human space is around 100,000 systems - with a larger halo of relatively uninhabited frontier systems around them - and many of the systems in human space without anything particularly remarkable there. The 400 billion number is for the immense galaxy.

In other words 400 billion number is just a fluff, like I said :p. I thought that even unremarkable systems will be procedurally generated and have something worth going there for. So from 100.000 systems of human space we will get to explore what? It sounds like they have no idea how many systems they will give us access to, they are opening single systems one by one which doesn't sound to be like procedural generation at all. PB1 - 5, PB2 - 8, Beta - probably 20 if they push themselves hard enough and Gamma then - I don't see more than 100 explorable systems at release and that's pushing.

We will still have 400 billion stars in the night sky majority of those stars we actually won't even see unless you zoom out in star map. Well, 100 pr even 50 systems is not that bad after all, it's more feasible than even 10.000 systems which will never happen most likely. Like I mentioned before I debated so hard on forums - there is no point PRing about millions or even billions. Those numbers from the game perspective are impossible to comprehend. Stick to the normal numbers and you won't have to explain yourselves after release ;).

David Braben: Interesting. No. I did hear of a cockpit study NASA did, where the controls were activated by looking at them (VR style). Apparently it was very stressful as pilots tried very hard not to look at controls that might have nasty consequences - like the ejector seat!

LOL, that's funny. I can imagine... "Ok, sir, please do NOT look at that red button... what did I just say?..... Oh... sh...." They could just keep the Red buttons to manual controls I think.

Great live chat overall. Some new vague information hehe.

New thread, same troll... dude, why did you not just post in your other thread about that? Also i get the feeling that you didn't read the logical answers in the other thread and therefore refuse to understand why we are restricted to such few systems.

Mods please close this thread or merge it into the other one, whatever suits you better

Procedural. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Seriously Shepard, it's getting a bit tiring seeing you repeat the same misconceptions everywhere. You have a thread on this and that's fine. Don't turn into one of those people who can't help dragging out the hobby horse at every opportunity.

That is a very cool idea. A "selfie" ROU. Or you could go and throw out a ROU drone. Both of those things could take damage.

SCNR for gratuitous Banks reference, but I don't think a (Demilitarised) Rapid Offensive Unit is going to be particularly happy filling your photo album. It might just decide one day to turn your ship into a rapidly expanding sphere of subatomic particles.

Because I just looked it up, this is the image of the "blow-up asteroid" station from Edge that he mentioned:

And I hereby name this station class "The Malteser".

Personally I'd prefer it if it didn't have an axial entrance and rotate, it's just like any other station to dock at. A real asteroid pirate cove might have a natural entrance tunnel with a couple of 90° bends in it and no centripetal gravity.

I'd also like to see open stations where you just dock to an exposed platform connected to a hub and a space taxi docks with your craft to take pilots 'indoors'.

I really would enjoy a Culture universe based area in Elite - just think of the ship names.

Do you never get bored of banging that same drum?

So from 100.000 systems of human space we will get to explore what?

You will get to explore all 100,000 populated systems.

And all of the others as well. You'll be able to journey to and explore any system you see on the star map.

All except for a few sectors that Frontier are going to keep to themselves for some future storyline stuff.

Also human universe will expand slowly but surely. More actively human pilots will explore and discover new things, more human systems will grow.
