Day 64 of a broken background sim

The thing is its not totally broken, or at least has that appearance. It is navigable, but can be frustrating to do so. Its such a pity because the 3.3 revamp was pretty good. Wars and CZs finally make sense in a joined up game sense. Multiple states opens up strategic opportunity on a broader field.

No, it is not totally broken but there are some serious bugs. Doing nothing to win an election? No this does not happen every time in every system but does frustratingly happen.

Some of the changes are good, some not so much in my opinion but that is discussed elsewhere.

It's certainly janky. There's a problem where CZ's will "break" which may or may not be exclusive to xbone. Basically the little progress bars and all that vanish, and the CZ becomes unbeatable as ships from both sides endlessly spawn. This seems to only ever happen when winged up, though.

That'd make sense... if it were not because devs will validate many bugs and the fact that many contain proof in one way or another that their bug actually happens.

Irrelevant to a discussion thread, this isn't a bug report and it doesn't contain any useful information. In fact if you try to shout people down for having a different experience/opinion its worthless as an attempt to fix anything as you are skewing the data.

I had some minor BGS issues last night. I don't see the point of posting them here as FDEV wont be reading it and nobodies interested in accuracy.

But it lets of some steam though. Its hard to keep on playing when parts of the game are broken, and heartbreaking when they stay that way for years.

True, but if people feel the need for a rant don't try to dress it up as anything more productive.

A lot of people have technical knowledge of the problems, and are trying to get FDs attention and at least try to move a solution along. Just because its the mosh pit of the forum does not mean answers have to be from the gutter too.

That's not happening here though is it and nobodies going to pay attention due to the ranty nature of the thread and the hostility to more than one viewpoint.

I experience BGS problems rarely that means I can give specifics about the circumstances of the rare occurrences which could actually help identify the cause. "GAH its broken" doesn't help to narrow that down at all "get out stigbob" could actively harm it.

While at some points its got a little heated, this thread is miles better than some. The DG DW PvP Soul Quest thread being an example of when it really gets mad.

I don't think calling the devs lazy, the "Fix It" memes and monkeys-on-computer gifs are the way to do that, tbh.

(I know you haven't stooped to do those things yourself, Rubbernuke. It beggars belief that those who have think it will get the response they want, though)

After a while you can't help it though. After years of patience I probably fall into the ranty crowd with Powerplay, and myself and a lot of people don't want that to happen to another part of the game- hence why these overflow threads pop up. And FD do look at them- so lets hope that there are devs going "I'm working as fast as I can!" to this thread.

Definitely, it has gone counterproductive though.

I'll pop a link in to an actual bug report after pooling info with the squadron. There's nothing useful to be had here.

You may not be aware of the backstory.

We have tested, repeatedly over the various patch iterations. We have bug reported. We tried to identify the bugs interacting with bugs. We have encouraged others to provide FDEV with enough information to investigate and resolve issues. We have attempted to engage FDEV on this matter. We have politely and repeatedly requested clarity which has not been forthcoming. The main official statement made beggars belief in that FDEV were "happy with the balancing" of a system that was even more broken than it is now (triggered!!). We continue to wait. This is not about FDEV bashing, this is about the long term health of the game. I am aware of long term BGS players who have just given up and newbies who quit in frustration. The feel good factor of the new BGS has been significantly eroded. The fix it meme was intended to be a light-hearted depiction of my frustration with the lack of communication and fixes. It didn't spring from nowhere. My patience is, I'm afraid, somewhat worn thin.

Day 70. 10 weeks.

You might advise what else we can do at this point other than continue to raise awareness and seek that the BGS game (a main feature of 3.3) is fixed. We are, after all, the customers here.

This might help, it explains why devs don't talk to gamers :

I just checked the bug thread where Ed specifically asked for detailed reports. In one month there only have been 9 posts about the unexpected results he was asking for. Meanwhile there have been 250 completely useless posts in this thread and probably a few hundred more in the BGS section. It doesn't help that there was no further dev / CM interaction, however the lack of useful bug reports in the "official" thread either show that the problem isn't as severe as some people suggest, or that the community is mostly indifferent about it being fixed.

The BGS has been fundamentally broken since the launch of 3.3. Despite some fixes there are serious problems with consistency of results, effort going to enemies during conflicts, positive actions giving negative results. Actions that work one day and not the next in the same system and conflict.

Long time players are departing in frustration. New squadrons are grinding themselves out of the game trying to deal with it.

Pretty much radio silence from FDEV on the matter. So much time invested in the development of the new BGS only to screw up the rollout and then not fix it. It is beyond a joke at this stage.

BGS never worked. Forget it.

There were a non-trival number of detailed reports from BEFORE they asked for more detail
There is a non-trivial number of factions that have just given up
There is a non-trivial number of CMDRs who are just avoiding known bugs until we are told they have been fixed
There is a non-trivial number of CMDRs who are fed up and sick to death of reporting bugs for them to be ignored.
There is a non-trivial number of CMDRs who are fed up with white knights telling them "It must be you stupid, you cant prove it"
There is a non-trivial number of CMDRs who are just livid that BGS has been dumbed down to hitting things with a hammer with a blindfold on.

But no, its all our fault.

I'm well aware of the backstory. I'm also a project manager who works with software devs on a daily basis, and I can assure you that they too have frustrations and patience that wears thin.

My advice is to keep sending your bug-reports to appropriate forum, keep them detailed and accurate, and without all the emotive language, cheesy memes, hang-wringing over newbies and passive-aggressive baiting.

Help them to help you.

The way you choose to communicate is nobodies fault but your own.
