General / Off-Topic Derby Meet

DungBeetle and I both live in Derby, UK and are planning a meetup at the Babington Arms (cos they do GREAT real ales and food).

Are any others interesting in coming along? Anyone is welcome, no matter where you're from. We'd love as many people as possible to make it. If you need information on hotels and stuff we stand ready to assist.

A date hasn't been set yet, but if people need notice to book things then that's fine.

Discuss! ;)

No. Derby.

Midlands. Middle of the country. Easy for people from all ends of the country to get to.

I dunno, it's a bit too far West for my liking. Could take me a whole hour to get there. :D

Is there one I can get to that's on my doorstep? I might be able to make that one, if I can survive the long journey downstairs.

Tell you what Duck, we'll all come to your house. I'll park my Cobra MK III on your driveway, though it might be a bit on the big side, so it may plough up your garden a little, and maybe knock down your front wall... but you won't mind if we all bring a bottle, right? Right?! ;)

Seriously though, a central place in the country would be good for people to meet, if something could be arranged sometime in the future.

Well, I don't have a front wall or a garden, so go for it! :D

I try to go to things like this, and almost invariably never do. It's hard to justify sitting in a room listening to people 20 years older than you talk about stuff you shouldn't be old enough to know about when I can do all that online without moving...

You have canals in Derby don't you?
I remember going on a narrow boat holiday near Derby when I was a wee lad.

We do. There was apparently one that went right past the area where I live, but it's been filled in now. There is a movement going to get it re-opened, which would make my house almost canalside property. Which would be awesome!

As for the rest, is anyone actually interested in coming to a meet? Or is extracting the Michael just too much fun?

@Duckie: all ages are welcome. We promise not to sit around talking remembering "when all this were fields". And it's much more fun to meet in person and get to know the actual people rather than anonymous text files. As long as you're old enough to drink...

Does that make you a 'sitting duck'?

:D

Hey, I never said I didn't enjoy that... And I'm already past drinking prime, so that's not a problem.
