Dev Diarys after Odessey Release?

Just as a heads up, if the dev diaries follow Planet Zoo’s recent format, the first one will be pretty light on details...

They started the info build to their Nov 2019 release with:

  • Trailer (April 24th)
  • A pretty generic my day in the office style affair (May16th)
  • A diary with an overview of some key design / gameplay aspects (May 28th)
  • A diary on a gameplay strand, but with only a touch of detail IE creativity in habitat design (June 5th)
  • A vid overview (June 20th)

Dear sweet Kumo gods no.

Its been so, so soooooooooooooooooooooooooo loooooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggg since we had actual forum content to actually debate over properly and not this rat-in-a-sack fighting over the meaning of three or so words like lawyers.

Just having words to read in an article of substance, some nice pictures and an actual genuine direction would be enough. I know how offices work, thats just filler.

I have one question for the devs, when in foot mode what happends to all my stuff when I get run over or shot and killed by a ganker or Thargoid?

i'm afraid he's right.

random pic, maybe, but substance never happened until shortly before release, why should it happen now? you know the drill.

that's a dev-diary at frontier, that's what the previous ones have been. 'discovery scanner' series was a different thing, a show of specific bits of old content. they won't reveal unreleased content that long before launch. this will be the "hello i'm random guy, i like ikebana and i'm soooo excited to work at frontier" forum post.

I'm hoping for:

Dev diary 1: A day in the life of a forum mod
Dev diary 2: How we made the teaser trailer (3 minutes, 1 of which is the teaser trailer)
Dev diary 3: Someone reading an open letter from a forum member out loud
Dev diary 4: Retrospective on the original games development
Dev diary 5: Live "reveal" stream with two developer who are not under any circumstances allowed to reveal anything

I really hope it won't be as generic as the above. I don't want to speak for all of the community, but I know for a fact that A LOT of us are waiting for some solid, concrete information on Odyssey. I don't think I'm wrong if I say that Elite community is at least 30 years old on average. At least. (I have a relatively good sample, out of 500 answers on my community's Elite forums 30-40yo is the average).

We're (mostly ;) ) matured grown-ups with jobs and families and we know - or at least should have a pretty good idea - how someone's "day in the office" looks like. I mean come on. You come in, you make a coffee or some porridge, fire up your PC and get to work. Code, post of the forums, send a few emails. With passion or not, depending on how much you love your job. (I send emails very passionately! :D ).

Then you have lunch, go for a walk and back to your desk. Code, post on the forums, then have a laugh with a mate about that bloke from the 2nd floor and how they always spill their milk in te kitchen and never clean up. Then it's 5 PM and you go home.

Yawn.

Show me some new assets. Tell me about the new procgen missions, that are supposed to have unlimited entertainment powers, as per the announcement. Tell me about stealth gameplay. Give me some ship interior screenshots (cough cough). Tell me how movement on low-G worlds was developed. You know, the grown-up stuff.

Concrete information about the upcoming expansion, which I (we) have been waiting for since what feels like forever now... I really really hope we will see DEVELOPER diaries, rather than AN OFFICE PERSON diaries.

Wait, you forgot about that dev guy that cooks fish in the microwave ... home working smells better for me

Oh yeah for sure, wanna hear those interesting details. Unfortunately 'curtain raiser' flannel may be what the PR team have in mind to start with though. Long road til Q1 2021 etc.

They did say that their marketing schedule hasn't changed. So hopefully it's solid content from the get-go! Which could also mean that release hasn't been pushed back as far as we all assume, fingers crossed!

I'm not talking spilling the beans, just pick a theme like "sound", "concepts" etc and theme it around that in a short Q & A like it was in The Old Times™.

Well the gap between the trailer and the first diary here is closer to the gap between the trailer and the second (more detailed) diary on Planet Zoo. So maybe they've decided to cut the crêpe for the notoriously beetle-browed Elite Dangerous crowd. 🤷‍♂️😂

I read that in a Shopping Channel way, and now visualise Thargoids modelling shoes and Diamondique jewellery.

"And next up on QVC, we have Sharon the Thargoid - she, or he is modelling a beige mankini, made from the tanned hide of a young Guardian. It's quite beautiful. Don't miss the necklace too - a pearly delight - built from dozens of perfect examples of the most voluptuous baby human skulls I have ever seen!
Now, these two items of beautiful beachwear can be bought for the tiny price of One Soul, and will make you the talk of the boardwalk! But don't delay, they are limited edition items designed by Glarg of Milan, and will sell out quicker than your local large pad tritium dealer!"
