Development Update 1 - June

So ... we getting this tomorrow?

Nope, as they can't solve the repeating textures issue ;)

(yes I'm aware this is concept art).

Truth should hurt the supplier not the customer. If this is the status they should decrease the price immediately and refund the difference to the people that already bought the product. They clearly sold a product that is not conformant. In other business companies run in debits and troubles. Instead here people even say thank you...
Because in the end we still love the game, it's literally a part of our lives for some of us. So yeah, they lied (I mean just look at the trailers), but when they say "sorry, it's going to take some time because we don't know how to do that yet" of course a part of me thinks I've been scammed (and this is coming from someone who bought the lifetime pass), but I also don't want the game to just end like that, and personally I don't want a refund.

Not sure if that makes sense, but anyways.

I wanted to say, This is not just a great start, but I would also like to know even more about the challanges you guys face developing this game. What limitations are you facing and what solutions were implemented. To me ED was always a technical milestone, I wish I would know more about the under the hood stuff. Despite the game being the state it is in, it's still a technical marvel, so hats down on that. I hope you open up on that front as well, I am sure a lot of the fun would love to read about that.

So just leave out the obvious and direct competitor that completely matches the criteria?

How droll.

So you are claiming that because SC has made so much from crowd funding and ship sales, it proves that there are 100s of millions to be made by developing a competitor game??

Why aren't you doing it so? All you need to do is run a kickstarter, have some round table investor talks (not easy I've been there) and prove to them you can make 100s of millions :)

Let me know how you get on

Nobody asked for FPS or the destruction of every aspect of the "mostly functional" base game.
Of the latter which I am still utterly speechless and flabbergasted on how they managed to
accomplish so effortlessly in one fell swoop.
This is exactly why I pointed out in the following lines that the things already there need to be fixed first.

I'm not even sure there's another developer that would be prepared to copy that exploitative funding model, even leaving out if there's a market for it. Without a minority of people spending thousands rather than $40 it can't exist.

I don't know what I expected from this Dev Post, but just a few bullets points about the same stuff we've already been told wasn't it. I would like to have seen behind the curtain. Don't just say "We're having trouble finding the fix", tell us about some of the reasons it's hard to find, and open up about the design decisions that led to where we are, good and bad.

Moderators talk to CM's the whole day. We have been asking about the timing of the post all day.
It was released as soon as it could be.
It was released when the CMs were told to release it. It could have been released yesterday, last week, last month. It contained no new information. This is decision by FDev management and tells us all exactly how little has changed and that they have no intention of following through on any of their promises.

Same here: Thank you for the update and the hard work put into addressing the most burning issues. There is however a number of smaller (annoying nonetheless) issues related to fundamental game functionalities.
I (like many others) do not think that the effort should stop on U5 and that the focus should switch entirely to console launch. Our console commanders have been waiting way too long, that is true - but bugs should have dedicated focus and being addressed regardless of current or future releases
As a console CMDR I totally agree that we’ve waited long enough for the update, but I also couldn’t agree more that the bugs should not be ignored

Damned if you do communicate, damned if you don't.

Tough crowd to please, this.
I think the promise of communication came from Frontier as part of some sort of damage control, after the release of Odyssey and the reaction. Since then it seem that the communication has been used to buy time. That does not change the fact that we paid a decent amount of money for something that wasn't finished. I don't recall being told, that playing VR in the same resolution as Horizons, I would get roughly 1/3 the Horizons fps. That is with Ultra in Horizons, and Low in Odyssey. I like the sunsets and the new planets, but this is not what was promised. And the list is endless. It simply cannot have come as a surprise to Frontier (management). That makes me upset, and I think other people feel something similar.

Hypothetical question:
If frontier said, we’re running another Kickstarter for ship interiors or weather effects etc insert your dreams here…. Would you fund it to allow them to get more developers onboard and accelerate development.

I know I would. I’d be interested if others would too. I didn’t track the original kick starter so not sure if these things were covered in stretch goals or not.
