Development Update 2 - July

Four Player Multicrew
Four Commanders will be able to board ships together for the first time, with a number of ships set to be equipped with a fourth cockpit seat, including several Commander favourites.
Expecting lots of wailing and teeth gnashing that's caused byt this update and the resulting multicoloured snakes galore. :/

Could we please get out fighter pilots on those empty seats at last.
They need not do anything there, other than be present!

Even so, I really hope the Krait gets the 4 seat treatment.
I really really hope it doesn't. It's bad enough looking over my shoulder at 2 empty seats, even though I've got a crew member with me most of the time. Having another one would be even more depressing.

There just isn't anything for a human crew member to do on a ship like the Krait except fly a fighter and you can only have 2 of those at most, with lots and lots of downtime when they're not out flying. Nobody would fit turrets to a Krait under normal circumstances. What would you do with the 4th crew member, assuming of course you could actually manage to get 4 people to instance together in ED reliably?

+1 for hired crew being in cockpit seats. It made no sense when they were first introduced, given that they use telepresence to control the SLFs anyway. How or why are they controlling our ship from some unseen place? How are they viewing the outside world? Surely we should not be sitting behind fragile glass canopies if there's a way to pilot the ship without being in the cockpit. Please. Cheers.

Re: Lighting and illumination. Can we get more specifics? We still don't really have any confirmation about all the gamma/brightness oddities occurring during frame rendering? Is that what's being adjusted? Can we expect the HUD to be restored to its former glowing gloriousness? It was looking fantastic before release, and the bloom effect worked really nicely on it.

Re: new planet colourations, they look nice!

Re: surface details, what am I seeing here? A before-after comparison would really help discern what's actually changed/improved.

Maybe it's still not clear enough that they are not ditching consoles for PC, it's that they CAN'T make it work on consoles right now... (as well as they are still trying to make it work on PC...)
I know what the official word is. I also know it can't be trusted right now, in light of the events of the past months, that's all.

As a console player, I've yet to hear anything comforting. Any CMs care to address this? I really liked this game and now I can't even make up a reason to be on it. Everything fdev is doing now just feels like too little, too late and for someone else.

Too little, too late.(n) Feels like there is ZERO ambitions to improve on the stale and boring current gameplay loops.

Keep up the hard work, FDev! See ya in a year!💞

Those pictures are pre release? Make me wonder why those features are not in the game now?
Nah, this is pre release :

You also have this example, from Alpha, posted by players (pegasi sector db-n be-1 1):

The black mark are 2d low rez textures :

As you can see the downgrade in quality is quite massive. Most notably, the loss of volumetric effect and volumetric atmo. Also a great decrease in texture variety and complexity.
Not to mention "cheap texturing" that have no place in a game from 2021.

While I don't think we'll ever get what we were sold with a "Ingame footage", the screenshots, if accurate, are a step in the good direction.
