Development Update 2 - July

This is the level of 'what the hell' I'm dreading. Consistency is not FDs strong suit and this idea (although good, if they can get the networking right) has massive palm into face potential. If I see four people crammed ultra kayak style in a Courier I'm gonna pop, but not in a cool way.
Yeah frankly I hope this is the time for the FDS, FAS and FGS to shine. But not in an OMG-it's-bigger-on-the-inside kind of way.

:D S

Complex craters (those with a central peak) are missing completely in Odyssey, whereas they were a thing in Horizons.
There is a small cratered planet just outside of the Colonia nebula, which had these most gorgeous craters, with peaks.

The craters were absolutely massive and very deep, it took me 1 hour to drive down from the rim to the base of a crater on this particular planet.

I’ll have a dig through my Horizons screenshots on PS and see if I can find it.

The peaks were like giant pyramids.

I do miss this type of crater, the huge flatter repeating craters in Odyssey are not as nice.

I gather they have a new texture pack for those ships in the pipeline too!

Please lovely people don't forget us little single player guys. When I rock up to a base armed to the teeth with rocket troopers and my SRV is under attack we need to be able to fight back.

Can we have new modules on the SRV particularly for single players?

It's quite difficult to do some of these missions on your own. At least make sure the base defence is reasonable.

I play single player exclusively these days, so I hear you. But I find settlement clearout missions, massacre missions, and even some conflict zones, are an absolute swizz in the SRV currently.

To the extent where I stopped choosing the SRV option as it was just too easy and boring.

You can often just plant yourself in one spot and just start mowing folk down. The reinforcements come running towards their deaths as well. You barely have to move sometimes.

I think it could definitely do with having more challenge for SRV users, and something to encourage the use of more conservative, defensive tactics at times.

I think this sounds like a great step in the right direction, especially for SP commanders, because we only play against AI. Multiplayer players can (theoretically) be fighting against other players and therefore have more challenge.

Could be that indeed. If lag is too large between you both that may impact your experience either way. But assuming port forwarding is set up properly it should be as efficient, if not more, than a central server based game though. If you want to try and troubleshoot a bit more go ahead and post your details in that thread and see if we can help.
Central server based games typically have shards per region for exactly this issue. :/

I've had a few restore missions in tourist locations that have had 3 or more 3 bar sharpshooters... They are really quite good fun, and do prevent the "sit SRV in one place" tactic very effectively!
One last night took me around an hour of hilarity as 2 teams (2 bar) dropped at opposite ends a minute or so after I'd set off to 'do unto' the 8 scavs already resident!

Having sharpshooters in the bars in tourist settlements, must be a little nod to good old Greedo

The people I team up with and use the same ship live in the same country with me, and most not that far away even, and we still get these disconnection errors when getting in and out of supercruise or hyperspace. Yes, even with port forwarding. It's so bad that we have completely shelved the option until it gets better.

If the disconnects can't be fixed, then the game needs to be more lenient about rejoining the team and popping back into the ship when reconnecting. It absolutely kills the option of traveling with one ship if one or more of the passengers drop out and end up back in some station when the ship is already at destination.

Much more encouraging communication Dev team (y) Thank you for listening and starting to fix some old bugs, as well as more recent ones🤞

Four Player Multicrew
Four Commanders will be able to board ships together for the first time, with a number of ships set to be equipped with a fourth cockpit seat, including several Commander favourites.
Why? Unless you are planning to give them something to do and make instancing together more reliable it will just be another empty seat in the cockpit.

Please let active NPC crew sit in those seats (unless they are occupied by a CMDR).
