Development Update 2 - July

As far as the on-foot game in settlements, I am quite frustrated. As I have grown older, I just haven't been into shoot 'em up games. I'm sure it sounds pathetic, but as soon as guns are drawn in this game, I am dead in less than a minute. I enjoy attempting the sneaky missions but if alarms are sounded I am dead if I can't run away. If I can fight from inside my SRV, I often stand a chance, but it sounds like this is going to be harder soon with rocket launchers given to the enemy. I DO like the ship combat, but frankly it is because I've engineered my MKII Krait to the hilt and the NPC's don't stand a chance.

This was a interesting post to read and i thought the feedback was great. This is one part i want to touch up on with you though.

Although i can understand the frustration i also think it's part of the learning curve, as you're coming into the 'fps scene' you're learning the mechanics and play style needed to pull off the missions.
This is something a lot of CMDRs are facing now, because elite on foot has become a different type of game.

Unfortunately i'm not sure the difficulty curve will change anytime soon, if at all, and i think players like me are the reason.
Coming from the FPS scene my whole life i can raid any settlement type currently and not have too much difficulty.
Every settlement has that sweet point, where you can funnel/bundle people, have cover and be close to ammo and recharges.
The only real difficulty comes from managing the ammo / shields near the end of the fights.
As long as you can cover yourself and peak fast, NPCs usually just melt.

So here seems to be the problem, experienced players can very easily be affective and feel like there is no challenge.
Where as experienced pilots have to adjust to a whole new gameplay mechanic, where a whole different play style is needed to do anything effectively.

What i (and others) can offer, is maybe some tips / tricks and things to do when you're raiding a settlement. I think (and hope) when you get some guidance you'll also be a lot more capable of doing solo settlement missions.

Wing missions are a step in the right direction, but i've not tried any yet so i have no idea how they might balance or help things.

I didn't say anything about them regenerating it, in fact, I didn't really say anything at all, you just read into that.
I was just showing a tiling issue with their new showcase of colours/themed planets.
To change that, ie the features rather than textures, they would need to regenerate the galaxy. Those shapes are used to generate the topography.

And whats this nonsense about "Just sayin.." and then getting shirty when someone points out why? lol. Passive aggressive "sayin".

Just watched the livestream - love the new camera suite - should make for some could user videos, and make my life easier for picture capture :)

Thank you very much for the Dev Update! I like the approach and we now also see more frequent content updates thats great! Can´t wait to see the post in the next month where planets with a thicker atmo are included ;)

New Odyssey Engineers in Colonia
This is a much requested community feature and we’re pleased to oblige. We’ll be revealing more detail around these engineers soon.
Nice, but let us first be able to destroy a mod occupying a slot in a suit or weapon.

Thank you FDev for these game fixes, but isnt' the idea to fix the current bugs without interducing more bugs with game content. Sorry FDev but I have to say you have proven over and over you can't intruduce more content without intruducing more bugs. I thought the idea was to move as quickley as possible to the console release. don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the hardwork at fixing the issues we are facing. just looking forward to playing on the console with my buddies who don't have a PC.
Orthogonal issues, I'm afraid. Fdev have demonstrated that a feature freeze doesn't keep them from breaking things - just look at all NPC portraits disappearing in update 5. What they need is firstly testing, and secondly iterative design. Meanwhile I rather wished they'd learn these things in the intervening years without breaking my favourite game over and over.

What i hope is that they bring back the volumetric haze effect. That made the atmopsheres looks so much more realistic.

Planets look amazing, I approve. I'm still going to bug you about ship interiors though... :)
i disagree. The planets look much worse compared to the dev diaries. The mountains look less realistic and smooth. The atmospheric effects dont look as stunning. The planets look kinda bland compared to what was shown to us months ago.

Great news! That's all we have asked for, information on how it's being fixed and improvements along the way.

MOGA! (Make Odyssey Great Again!) 😁
