Development Update 3 - August

It will not be an ED killer but what I see there is some creativity at play.

New York Atlantis, the capitol of the United States Colonies? The most powerful military country faction? A true melting pot with people from every etnicity aliens of all races? Envisioned as a large collection of big skycrapers with cars driving flying around? At night, so you can really see that innovative neon lightning and hi-tech billboards?

Maybe my expectations are too high, but I am not yet ready to celebrate the amazing creativity here. Then again, it has been 19 years since Bethesda released anything that is not a collection of codified cliches so we´ll see. ±P

Art (vehicles and such not planets) wise Elite can be bland and ships are pretty much a variety of wedges except the alliance ships and maybe the Mamba. City outposts need an art pass and stations are ok. FDev needs to stretch those creativity muscles. Even the Fleet carriers are just ok. Nothing to wow anyone.

They dare to do it and I salute that. Simply landing on a pad in town with our ship will already be very good.

Prison megaships already have a stub of a social area (just an Apex and the cells you wake up in), and they're nothing like the starport ones. They're much, much smaller and have no windows, but at least they have better performance.

I suspect the other megaship social spaces will be more like those.

Interestingly, the prison interiors have cuttable panels and energy link ports that you can't interact with because you can't use any of your tools in there. I wonder if they had one eye on prison break and on-foot megaship raid gameplay when they designed it.

Yes I understand that, there are currently 3 hub models only. But there is a much wider range of external architecture out there, Coriolis, Ocellus, Orbis, Outpost, Asteroid Base, Planetary, it's kind of absurd to think that all of them, each with their unique architecture, have the same hub with just different colors

Gotta admit that Bethesda has fallen pretty far. :/ Morrowind was peak-beth to me, Oblivion was okay-ish, Skyrim was a good mod platform. Beyond that it was FO4 (mediocre), FO76 (ouch), plus a barrage of 'Skyrim GOTY Legendary Complete Collectors Edition' or whatever and attempts to muzzle the mod community and profit from them.

Weird how the gaming community went from 'OMG Cyberpunk such a disappointment, never fall for past reputations and hype!" to "OMG the endless ultimate awesome game from the makers of Skyrim!!!!!" in the blink of an eye. Gamers really deserve the industry they got. :D
Daggerfall was the peak for me.

Video is just concept art. I'll wait to see an actual game before getting hyped.

Other than "to have them", I can't see much point in people having their own private social spaces on their carriers. It's not like sitting around having drinks at the bar is actually a thing, communication between Cmdrs is done via text and isn't bound by people standing around together, same with voice.
For me it's about being able to hand in Vista Genomics data while in uninhabited space.

They aren't too thin though, you can see the details in system map. FDev just chose to render atmospheres as if they were 5% as thick as the game says they are, likely as an excuse for no clouds or weather.
We're flying ships that run many hundreds of tonnes routinely.
It's not going to be pushe around by 0.01% of an atmosphere.
As for the rendering thickness.
I believe any weather patterns like dust storms is far more likely to influence the "visual thickness"
of the atmosphere than the air itself.

This is good to see, but a couple things seem a bit irksome.
You've always paid attention to the community, thats not my issue here. But it's the wording to suggest that you're doing this and other updates because some commanders complain is just ludicrous.
To suggest the only reason you're making changed to lighting is to make them in line with some Commanders expectations is meaning to suggest you, at Frontier, were happy with how lighting/the rest of Odyssey was, at launch. And, as extension, that you've only been doing updates for us. Hold up here. The reason you're doing these updates is because your numbers are low. That's it. Don't try and pass this off as you're doing this because of our requests. The reason you're paying attention to our requests may be attributed to the fact whatever you released clearly was not something that increased the player base, as it should have, so now you are needing assistance, with the hope and goal of getting back on track, but don't suggest anything other than you're out of touch.

You've gone through items before, and said they'd be crossed off the list as done. What galaxy are you all in? The one I'm in has proven that while maybe an item or 2 gets solved, others become worse or raise more issues. Please dont raise anyones expectations here to suggest, after loading update 7, that lighting, or anything on this list, with be 'completed'. You're just begging for the 5 minutes after posts of "this isn't fixed". Make an abbreviation... "As far as we know, it's done" AFEWKID. Something like that, but dont mislead folks. And, really, how can you? It may work fine on your systems there, but if nothing else, we know things are not working the same on different setups, etc.

I want to know why you cant make different concourse areas, different asteroid stations, etc. It's nice you can change the railings, or colours. But why cant we have different layouts/models there? To me, things that are copied in such a way, just seem like placeholders and that one day they'll be changed to how it is intended to be. For example, the screens in cockpits are a single jpeg, no movement. That seems like a placeholder since, in reality, maybe the graph being depicted would change. But what I want to hear is whether that, and station concourses, etc, are indeed placeholders, and will change or they wont. But more importantly, if they wont change, I want to hear why they wont. Is it that the models are deeply woven in the code? Is it that the servers will blow up? Why, in a galaxy with more than 400 billion systems, can we only have 1 concourse? What the actual f is the reason we can only have copy/pasted stuff? Can anyone tell me that? Is it some gaming thing, where you can only have 8 assets? If so, I want to hear it, so I know not to expect a second concourse, ever.
Because it means extra work for them, without which they could get away shifting devs off to other projects instead, I'd assume.

Only a few systems, enough if they are well worked, and in passing I stress that I did not say that Starfield was going to be an "Elite Killer" but another way for lovers of space, as said above, Google translate is used and greatly distorts the meaning of French + Forum which reacts weird to the ctrl + V of translate from Google Chrome.
Really?

I believe any weather patterns like dust storms is far more likely to influence the "visual thickness"

It's up to 0.1 ATM. So the upper limit is 10% of Earth atmosphere, a thousand times denser than 0.01%.

Item 4, Nothing to do on long shuttle journeys. You are missing the point. Redirecting the shuttle is not "something to do" it's basically aborting your current trip. Something to do would be, for example, having access to a map of your destination settlement and being able to study it.

It takes time to make, and those folks are doing other things. That's it.
Yeah I doubt whatever full force of staff they had working on EDO pre-release is actually still on the project. They've likely still moved a good deal of staff onto other projects despite the so-called commitment to rectifying EDO. It's standard procedure for any multi project studio.
