Development Update 4 - September

I guess I missed those. Even on the stream yesterday the only console news was that this update would not be for console and we have no news regarding consoles. Still sticking with "Abandoned" until they SHOW us, not talk about, different.
To be fair, the “talk” and the “show” are pretty lined up if you think about it:

“Console EDO on hold (indefinitely)”
“No Plans for current-gen support”

If we take them at those words … Abandoned is absolutely the correct conclusion.

If we say that we’re doom-mongers … but if we ask for updates we’re not listening … we can’t win!

The annoying thing about this whole 'tell us again you aren't doing consoles yet' thing is it's a distraction from everyone asking: where is the optimisation? why was patch 7 so laggy compared to patch 6? Why was patch 8 the jesus patch but now it's just lighting and patch 9 (presumably in 2022) is now the jesus patch? How many months are we away from fdev even considering that they might have optimisation in hand?

Instead we just get to go around and around while some are distracted by the second SRV ... available at some indeterminate point in the future - when we find they forgot to put any wheels on and it's stuck in reverse with the horn jammed on :)

Indeed news stuff is fun but performance must be the priority.

Indeed. Unfortunately some people can't see the forest for their personal shrubbery.

Especially because optimization is the key to a console release anyway. As it stands, there's no way Odyssey could even be certified for consoles. And if that were possible, console players would just be in the same enviable position as the people who have already paid for the expansion:

Personally, I reserve my empathy for people with actual problems, not for those that complain they don't know when they can purchase a product that isn't yet anywhere near ready for release. #FirstWorldProblems
Obviously a game not being available is far from a big problem from a “big picture” perspective. Just as the game you bought not performing properly isn’t, either. That’s not the point.

I wholeheartedly agree. We should not be cheering or even accepting new content being added to EDO until the performance issues have been satisfactorily resolved.

At that point the console ports and any new content can be started and then enjoyed by all.

- I am frustrated that the performance optimisations are taking so long but I understand the position wrt that and the console ports.

- I am unhappy that EDO on PC is being expanded on before the above has first been fixed.

The fact that so many PC folks can’t understand the difference is quite astonishing. And you talk of shrubberies …
