Development Update 5 - October

Could be enough for you, not for me with Virpil joy + HOTAS. I don't want vJoy or similar, I want native support like MFS, DCS, ...
I was being snarky. The idea of them shoving Elite’s control scheme into a controller layout is just funny to me 😜

To get support without use vjoy and joystick gremlin they need to implement the old API used with DirectInput. Those are not supported by the new devices like the PS5 and Xbox controller; which is why they are using the new API and not the old ones.

Many people do not realize that the one that support more than 32 buttons and 3 axis are the old API, the new ones are the ones with limitations.

Yes. And that doesn't imply much more than what can be seen currently has been modeled with somewhat correct proportions, access points, etc. That's all needed if interiors traversal isn't planned yet.

Though, as SC is mentioned, I'd say it's quite funny that for a game so heavily focused on interiors some ships were released with roof so low players clipped through it, or ships meant to transport ship or vehicle having so tiny bay that putting the said vehicle is a PITA?

That goes in the realm of artists and devs not talking.

SC is not a normal project; it is Chris Roberts personal playground, which people pay to play in it. When CR want something he ask for it; and it does not matter if that ship that has cargo door to load a vehicle, does actually fit a vehicle, or if you head clip through the ceiling... That does not compute for CR, he ask for it, and people do what he say.

SC features are not designed, prototyped and implemented; usually CR say "I want a cabbage on the table of a ship", and that cabbage appear on the table. You can hear the stories about ex and current employee of that company, and get a feel for how messed up SC is; not because of the inherit difficulty of the project; but because they have to deal with CR direction (or lack of)

Update 8 has just dropped, the road map for update 9 has been laid out, PC is getting all these new features and Odyssey is moving full steam ahead.

Meanwhile there is absolutely no mention of consoles anywhere in these updates, we were told that Fdev would focus on getting Odyssey up and running on PC before directing their attention to Console but this goes beyond that.

PC is getting new content while console is just being left to rot, not even a simple "Work is ongoing to bring EDO to consoles."

Just a total lack of acknowledgment or transparency, suppose that's to be expected for us console players at this point.

I would expect this Friday will see the 'end of November' developer update.
including details of when the next PC update will land, what'll be included in it and more defect fixes that Frontier are prioritising.

I guess that it'll also include some more details on the Fleet Carrier on-foot areas as that was heavily trailed previously.

I can't believe that there is much more to be done on EDO before Frontier will start focusing the majority of their effort on Console (if they aren't already).
It would be good to have a time frame for console back on the table (my money would be Q1 2022 so that it launches within the financial year, but even a H1 2022 would go some way to managing console base expectations)

The problem is, that there is no clear information given, that EDO will come to consoles.

Sadly they avoid the answer with vague statements. This means for me, that the release of consoles isn’t decided. I think there is a huge possibility that the consoles wouldn’t get EDO. No infos, no timelines nothing.

Was there no developer update 6 for November?
There's one coming tomorrow (or later today depending on where you live). They're doing something a little different this time around, calling it an "end of the year community update" with some extra bits, but it should serve relatively the same purpose.

[...], but it should serve relatively the same purpose.
Looking back at what the community has done in the past is not quite the same as looking at what the developers will do in the future.

But I'm sure there will be some hints about things to come.

And here we are, 2 days shy of 3 months since the last development update, disappointing is an understatement... I'm starting to wonder if we'll get to see one today, tomorrow, Friday, or Monday.

This is from an ED email sent yesterday.

Anything else of note in that mail? Frontier doesn't seem to want to send me any anymore. 🤷‍♂️

The last one I got was about Lemnis Gate last June. The last Elite related one was a Store Alert in November 2020. But I don't miss those too much tbh.
