Devs Why Not Replace Our Personal Fleet Carriers With Squadron Carriers?

If you don't want people using the features of your squadron carrier, then don't invite anyone to your squadron or use the rank system to restrict access.
I'm already paying for the maintenance of my fleet carrier for my friends and me. This is going to make a lot of fleet carriers a waste of time for those of us who got one and paid for upkeep for our friends.

This seems like a waste of dev resource time in my opinion to not just add these features and restrictions to our current carriers.

Story wise just say there was galaxy wide recall for our current carrier due to a critical engine issue.

I'm concerned about how much is going to cost to buy and upkeep, as I think the current prices are fine.

Well we've paid weekly for our carriers and had the use of them all that time. If a better option comes along we lose nothing by decommissioning and getting the startup credits back to put towards something else.
 
S'funny, back when FCs were first announced (as squadron assets) and people started begging FDev to make them available to individuals, a few people suggested a compromise where individuals might have access to some kind of "mini-carrier" which'd have, perhaps, a couple of landing pads and would provide storage for ships, modules and cargo and provide repair/refuelling/rearming services.

With the benefit of hindsight, it seems like FDev could have saved themselves some effort by giving us mini-carriers 5 years ago (or whenever it was) and then recycled all the additional features planned for FCs and added them to the new Vanguard Carriers.

Ah well... 🤷‍♂️
 
An announcement or video on these Squadron Carriers, has there been one ?
I can't find a video for Squadron Carriers in a google search and I searched here and there's a couple of large threads discussing various related things but no moving pictures.
I've read several pages and it appears FDev is repeating what they Wanted to do with FCs when they were announced (way back when) but backed off after a lot of player input and offered them to anybody; not specifically for clans or groups (iirc). ... inquiring minds
 
I'd be curious what they would do with the costs if they were to offer it as a choice for a personal carrier (minus the Squadron features), with the current Drake-Class being the 'cheap' carrier.
Would I pay double the deposit and double the upkeep, and double the fuel bill just for double the capacity? Maybe.
Triple the cost for double, probably not.
10x the cost for double. No chance.
 
Are we sure squadron carriers are going to actually be better and not just geared more for multiplayer?
In my (subjective) view, a squadron carrier is not going to be a fleet carrier replacement (unless you're really intent on being in a one man squad just for it) because it is just what it says. A squadron asset that may and likely will be used for and by other members for different activities in different locations to what you may be doing, or want to do.

Meanwhile the fleet carrier is "yours" (in the sense that only you can tell it what to do/where to go) and as such is more reliable for your personal use cases. Being that I am in a squadron with multiple people, I don't see any point in replacing my personal carrier for one that may or may not be where I want it for what I'm personally doing, and my ships are now on the other side of the Bubble, because it's of a different focus to that of the squad that day, or week or, whatever. So no, they shouldn't "automatically upgrade" and effectively remove the fleet carrier from the game by doing so*.

TL;DR... the post isn't that long.

*And as they at least currently have either solved or traffic has gone down enough for the lengthy jump timers to not be an issue, I think there's no argument to be made in that regard. Right now, anyway.

That's kind of what I was thinking they'd do with this. Since we can get our own carriers they can effectively strip out much of the stuff that's useful to us on a single Cmdr basis for the squadron carrier and replace it with screens and other UI stuff we can use to coordinate activities and organise the players in the group.
 
So we can all have Vanguard Carriers and then, in about 5 years, FDev can announce "Armada Carriers". :unsure:

We all dig out all our old posts from the previous carrier announcements change the dates and post them again of course.
After all it isn’t likely many of us will change our opinions in such a short time.

A tenfold increase would give fees starting around 150,000,000 credits a week which would be an issue for some, my FC would be out if funds in less than two years at that rate.
 
In my eyes, the biggest advantage when personal carriers would be replaced through squadron carriers could be less clutter in systems because it would greatly reduce the number of carriers.
That could also be the biggest drawback: DSSA Carriers (the only carriers which I care about) might disappear when there's only one carrier per squadron and/or maintenance costs are multiplied.
 
I don't play enough to justify owning a personal carrier, or more specifically the upkeep costs of one and I guess that will go double, or maybe even treble for the new Squadrons version, but it would be good so see some type of smaller, cheaper (as in no upkeep cost) mini carrier. Maybe it holds say 6 ships, 2 small, meduim and Large. Very basic refuel, repair and rearm, and a very limit cargo hold. I know its a pipe dream, but I'd own one.
