Did I miss something?

I am really new to the game, been playing for only 2 weeks or so. I used to do salvage missions where ships would drop in and scan me complain if I was empty and jump out. Or if I had some of the cargo they gave me 15 seconds to drop it or sometimes drop 6 tons of cargo etc. If I was successful sometimes I would get alerts of incoming enemies after me and maybe get indacted.

Now I drop in open hatch line up on cargo, boom 6 ships jump in 1 conda, 1 fer-dl and various smalls and just open fire. I'm not taking missions several levels above my rank here, these are small pay-outs. Then 4 pips to shields, chaff, FSD charge, (factor 23 disruptive block) juke and jive and boom about 7 seconds. I'm even in a high security system and allied with the locals.

So what did I miss? Is this the new norm for all salvage missions, I mean it's clock work hop in count to 10 and boom conda spitting at you as if you insulted his mother!

Side note, I did manage to catch one message from them... "We got this focus on the lead ship." I am the only ship, so is it confused thinking I'm in some massive wing?! No this was not one of the new cool "wing missions" either.

I've noticed this as well - something has definitely changed, I'm beginning to think that ALL salvage missions are now somehow flagged as "wing" missions and wings of pirate ships are dropping in on unarmed Asps or small combat ships like my Cobra MKIII.

This morning I had one mission where I dropped into the salvage site, waited for a good minute to see if anyone appeared, then the INSTANT I deployed a limpet to grab the cargo 3 ships appeared out of nowhere and just lit me up. I was able to evade them until system security showed up, and actually managed to kill a couple for some small bounties, but after the fight I could no longer find the cargo. So then I go into supercruise again, the Mission Target signal source appears, I drop out again, and the EXACT SAME SCENARIO plays out. I fought off the second wing (again with sys security help) and again I couldn't find the cargo. So I did it one more time, only this time when I dropped out, I targetted both items, send a couple of limpets out, and then just kept pips to shields until they came back, then I high-waked out and made my return delivery.

I'm just glad that the 3 enemy ships weren't all that tough - competent Cobras and Eagles with not a lot of firepower. Not sure what they changed, but something is different now.

I've done a few of these since 3.0, and every time I got jumped by a wing of 3 or 4 ships as soon as start scooping up the cargo. Luckily I can tank in my Cutter while the limpets do their work.

I found something similar with a WARTIME black box mission. I figured the quick response was because it was a war time mission. The three ships that dropped took two rings off my ApsX's shields before I could escape which made me think they were CZ level vipers and eagles.

............. FSD charge, (factor 23 disruptive block) .............

Pro tip - before going into any instance either for combat or with a chance of combat, lay in a hyperjump-course to a destination in a nearby system - then if you need to bug-out you can high-wake away, as ships can't mass-lock (hate that term) / inhibit a h-jump.
