Difficulty finding HGEs today

I did some HGE farming a couple weeks ago during the engineer bonus and had relatively little issue finding them. Today, I spent over an hour and visited over a dozen high pop systems (>1 billion ppl), and I found not a single one. Has anyone else experienced issues within the last week or so finding HGEs or did I have horrible luck? I mean that's astronomically bad RNG, I'm thinking something is up.

I visited systems of all 3 major superpowers and independent, found a ton of encoded but no HGEs at all.

Did you go to systems in the right states?

There are always fallow times where the stars don't align right, and others where the mats are coming out the wazoo. (pun intended)

I did some a few days back and in general spawn rates seemed to be down. Not for any specific material or system state type etc(I grab what I can and trade with mat traders) but just in general, high population systems that I expect from previous experience to have multiple HGEs were spawning one or none. I can't say I checked enough to give a definitive verdict though.

No, I need pretty much everything. Imp shielding, CDCs, proto radiolic alloys, I need it all. Ironically, PIs are the one thing I really dont need as i tend to pick them up over time through combat.

The only cherry picking of systems I was doing was by population, I didnt even look at the state.

Combat+!!!÷×÷ they drop like rain. Big vette cargo open 6 limpets In a hazrez with 20 ton gold in the hold biweaves and scbs. It'll rain mats.
Gets a bit hectic mind...be warned.
Failing that plot a route across the bubble and back targeting civil war war boom expansion etc...
Works for me.
The pirate Lords drop nice mats too.. threat 6.
10 fully engineered ships done this way and i still have a good selection of mats. Raw mats do require another visit to the crystal forest though...
Finally in combat you scan ships constantly so get alot of encoded too.

What you are looking for is the nearest Federation aligned system with the highest population close to you. The higher the population (go for tens of billions to be sure), the more chances for HGE's you'll find. When you have looted the HGE, close the game completely to Desktop and start it back up. Drop into Supercruise and that same HGE will spawn behind you and you can loot it over and over again.

I do know about the HGE reset trick, I just didn't have any HGEs to cycle earlier. I think my mistake was not looking for the particular states that were mentioned earlier, going to try that now.
